Joe Root stars with ball as Yorkshire beat Somerset in County Championship after superb fightback

Joe Root and Dom Bess took four wickets each as Yorkshire completed a 75-run comeback victory over Somerset in Division One of the Rothesay County Championship.

Yorkshire added just six runs at the start of the final day to post a second-innings total of 371 in Taunton and leave the hosts chasing a target of 260.

Root claimed 4-49 and fellow off-spinner Bess 4-60 to help secure their side's first victory of the season as Somerset were bowled out for 184 shortly after tea.

Somerset had led by 112 on first innings after Yorkshire were bowled out for 162 on the first day, before the visitors battled back for the win.

Reigning champions Nottinghamshire moved top of the table after defeating neighbours Leicestershire by 10 wickets with two sessions to spare at Grace Road.

Left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White snared the last five Leicestershire wickets to finish with figures of 5-53, as they were bowled out for 254 when following on.

Nottinghamshire opener Ben Slater hammered Josh Hull over cover for six to end unbeaten on 52 and complete a comprehensive triumph after his side were set a target of just 73.

Surrey clinched their first win of the season with an eight-wicket victory over Sussex at the Kia Oval.

Sussex, who began the day 188 runs adrift on 76-4 in their second innings, were ultimately bowled out for 277 in 85 overs.

That left the hosts requiring just 14 for victory, which was achieved in four overs, despite Rory Burns and Ryan Patel both being trapped lbw by James Coles in the second over.

Glamorgan celebrated their first top-flight win in the County Championship for 21 years as they beat Hampshire impressively, by an innings and 68 runs in Southampton.

Glamorgan needed just five further wickets for victory on the final day and did so with more than a session to spare, despite Ben Brown holding them up with a magnificent 96.

In Division Two, Matt Milnes bowled Kent to their first County Championship win in over a year, as they routed Derbyshire by 225 runs at Canterbury.

Milnes took career-best figures of 6-12 as Kent blew the visitors away for just 158 in their second innings, when chasing 384.

At Lord's, a resolute half-century by Max Holden - his second of the match - prevented Durham from securing a third victory of the season as Middlesex battled to secure a draw.

Holden finished unbeaten on 77, sharing a key partnership of 82 with Ben Geddes for the fourth wicket after the home side, 137 in arrears on the first innings, had slumped to 53-3 before holding out for the draw.

Northamptonshire had already clinched their first victory of the season on Sunday, wrapping up an innings-and-177-run victory over Worcestershire on day three.
