How was Abd al-Rahman III ruthless and successful?

Answers

Answer:

Abd ar-Rahman III was the most prominent representative of the Cordoba Umayyad dynasty, governing from 912 to 961. He assumed power during the period when the emirate of Cordoba was a city-state of little importance in al-Andalus. However, he quickly rebuilt the position of the Umayyads in the Iberian Peninsula, regaining the lands lost as a result of uprisings and rebellions. From 912 he waged constant wars with local Muslim rulers and rebel leaders.

In 917, he began his expansion in North Africa, thereby counteracting the policy of the Fatimid caliphs in the Maghreb. He was paid tribute by Morocco, Melilla and Ceuta. In 917, he declared a holy war against Leon, which invaded his emirate. Over time it was turned into jihad and kital against all Christian rulers in the Iberian Peninsula.  In 924 he captured and destroyed Navarre. His march north was stopped only by a severe defeat in 939 at Alhandega.

He was a skillful politician in the emirate's internal affairs. He pushed away the Arab aristocracy, which was striving for an oligarchy in the state. When he was sure of his absolute power, on January 16, 929, he assumed the title of caliph and ordered that his name be mentioned during each prayer.  During his reign, the economy and agriculture of al-Andalus developed. The caliph led to the expansion of the mines of precious metals. He developed in Spain the production of weapons, glass, brass and silkworm farming.

How is the policymaking process different in the Senate than it is in the House?

a. Filibusters are less common in the Senate.
b. The Rules Committee is more powerful in the Senate.
c. Debates are less formal in the Senate.
d. Bills are passed more quickly in the Senate.

Answers

When the Framers created a bicameral legislature, they created a system of checks and balances within Congress by requiring a bill to be passed in both chambers.

The structures, powers, and functions of the House of Representatives and the Senate are different, and these differences can affect the policymaking process: for example, by accelerating it or slowing it down, and by the extent to which bipartisan collaboration is or is not facilitated.

which selection from the article BEST supports the idea that African-American culture changed during Reconstruction? (A) They gave them few civil rights and rejected social equality for blacks. African-Americans, on the other hand, wanted full freedom and, above all, land of their own. (B) They quietly left white churches and formed their own religious organizations, which became centers for the African-American community. (C) However, the sharecropping system ensured the continued poverty of African-Americans in the South and blacks' dependence on white bosses for employment. (D) There were no black governors, only two black senators and a handful of congressmen, and only South Carolina had a legislature controlled by blacks.

Answers

Answer:  (B) They quietly left white churches and formed their own religious organizations, which became centers for the African-American community.

Explanation:

In the Reconstruction era, African Americans had more freedom than before due to the presence of Federal soldiers which enforced the new amendments giving African Americans freedoms as America citizens.

One of the things the African Americans did was to start their own churches. These were considered the first institution Black people could control for their own selves and so they became an integral part of black culture and they still are today.

What did Europes think about the universe and eart PLSS HELPP!!

Answers

Answer:What one believes about the nature of the universe and one's own place in it is not a trivial matter, and it has profound consequences for how an individual thinks about all aspects of life. Through the teaching that I have done over many years at Knox College (especially in the now defunct First-Year Preceptorial course on "Nature and Culture" and in "History & Systems of Psychology"), I have developed a strong interest in the history of cosmologies, especially the worldview of Medieval Europeans. I am especially interested in how their beliefs about the nature of the physical universe evolved from earlier Greek philosophies and how these beliefs became entangled with Christian Theology through a series of historical coincidences. [See Plato, Aristotle, Christianity, & Knowledge for more details.]

From the early through the late Middle Ages, Europeans moved from a disorganized, almost mystical way of thinking about the universe to an acceptance of a well-ordered, geocentric universe based upon the ideas of Greek philosophers such as Ptolemy and Aristotle.  In this universe, the Earth was at the center and other heavenly bodies rotated around it in a series of concentric spheres (see the diagram to the left).  The entire system was powered by the primum mobile, or "Prime Mover," which was the outermost sphere set in motion directly by God.

It took some very creative thinking to make this universe work well.  For example, the retrograde motion of the planets in which they sometimes seemed to be changing directions and moving backwards was explained by way of "epicycles" (see the diagram on the right below).  Specifically, it was proposed that the planets rotated around a center point fixed in place on the sphere of that planet, causing the apparent change in the direction of planetary motion.

Since medieval Europeans had no conception of a vacuum, it was believed that the heavens were filled with a celestial fluid that flowed as the spheres of the universe rotated, thus sustaining the motion of the planets.  Furthermore, all of this motion created a beautiful "music of the spheres" which could not be detected by humans (at least not until after they died and went to heaven), but which provided pleasure for angels and other supernatural beings.

Answers

Answer:

Bicameral legislature.

Explanation:

The type of government in which legislators such as a senator and house of representative members are elected is known as a democracy. Democracy refers to a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

A bicameral legislature is usually formed by a group of representatives elected by the people of a country.

A bicameral legislature can be defined as a legislative body that comprises of two chambers or houses; upper house and lower house. The upper chamber or house consists of senators while the lower chamber consists of house of representatives. These legislators are elected by the people of the state they are representing and as such they must be an indigene of that particular state.

The primary function of these legislators is to make (enact) laws and that is why they're usually referred to as the legislative arm of government (legislature). In addition to making laws, legislators are saddled with the responsibility of confirming any appointment made by the president that requires consent and the ratification of treaties.

Can someone help me Need help ASAP with all 3 Do the heart serve as a artery to push blood around the body? Read the following passage carefully before you choose your answer. The following is an excerpt from an autobiography written in the third person by Henry Adams, a prominent Bostonian. The chief charm of New England was harshness of contrasts and extremes of sensibilitya cold that froze the blood, and a heat that boiled itso that the pleasure of hatingone's self if no better victim offeredwas not its rarest amusement; but the charm was a true and natural child of the soil, not a cultivated weed of the ancients. The violence of the contrast was real and made the strongest motive of education. The double exterior nature gave life its relative values. Winter and summer, cold and heat, town and country, force and freedom, marked two modes of life and thought, balanced like lobes of the brain. (5)Town was winter confinement, school, rule, discipline; straight, gloomy streets, piled with six feet of snow in the middle; frosts that made the snow sing under wheels or runners; thaws when the streets became dangerous to cross; society of uncles, aunts, and cousins who expected children to behave themselves, and who were not always gratified; above all else, winter represented the desire to escape and go free. Town was restraint, law, unity. Country, only seven miles away, was liberty, diversity, outlawry, the endless delight of mere sense impressions given by nature for nothing, and breathed by boys without knowing it.Boys are wild animals, rich in the treasures of sense, but the New England boy had a wider range of emotions than boys of more equable climates. He felt his nature crudely, as it was meant. (10)To the boy Henry Adams, summer was drunken. Among senses, smell was the strongestsmell of hot pine-woods and sweet-fern in the scorching summer noon; of new-mown hay; of ploughed earth; of box hedges; of peaches, lilacs, syringas1; of stables, barns, cow-yards; of salt water and low tide on the marshes; nothing came amiss. Next to smell came taste, and the children knew the taste of everything they saw or touched, from pennyroyal and flagroot2 to the shell of a pignut and the letters of a spelling-bookthe taste of A-B, AB, suddenly revived on the boy's tongue sixty years afterwards. Light, line, and color as sensual pleasures, came later and were as crude as the rest. The New England light is glare, and the atmosphere harshens color. (15)The boy was a full man before he ever knew what was meant by atmosphere; his idea of pleasure in light was the blaze of a New England sun. His idea of color was a peony, with the dew of early morning on its petals. The intense blue of the sea, as he saw it a mile or two away, from the Quincy hills; the cumuli3 in a June afternoon sky; the strong reds and greens and purples of colored prints and children's picture-books, as the American colors then ran; these were ideals. The opposites or antipathies, were the cold grays of November evenings, and the thick, muddy thaws of Boston winter. With such standards, the Bostonian could not but develop a double nature. (20)Life was a double thing. After a January blizzard, the boy who could look with pleasure into the violent snow-glare of the cold white sunshine, with its intense light and shade, scarcely knew what was meant by tone. He could reach it only by education.Winter and summer, then, were two hostile lives, and bred two separate natures. Winter was always the effort to live; summer was tropical license.(1918)1Syringas are ornamental shrubs.2Pennyroyal is a mint plant; flagroot is the root of a particular herb.3Cumuli are thick clouds. In context, the word "drunken" (sentence 10) is best understood to mean (2 points)excitingconfiningconsumedfrighteningstupor-inducing 4 of 5) What is a good way to stay diversified?A.
