Answers

Answer:

In adult organisms the regenerative capacity of certain organs or tissues can be limited, resulting in an important clinical challenge for physicians and scientists [1-3].

Regeneration involves the capacity for renewal or recomposition of tissues, organs or even organisms, after considerable physical injury or damage, resulting from pathologies, tumors, congenital diseases or traumas, for example. As a consequence of tissue regeneration, both the composition and the tissue properties are restored, and the newly formed tissue is highly similar to the original tissue. The regenerative capacity is directly related to the presence of stem cells or progenitor cells, which are capable of proliferation and differentiation [4,5]. Tissues that maintain a high proliferative capacity, such as the hematopoietic system, have regenerative capacity even in adult organisms [6].

Cell proliferation occurs in repair processes in general, accompanied by intense production of extracellular matrix, with large amounts of collagen, resulting in the formation of fibrous tissue to occupy the injured area. Although there is lesion filling, both the composition and the tissue properties are different from the original tissue, and the tissue organization pattern is not restored, leading to an altered performance of its functions [2]. Skin healing processes with the presence of scars are examples of tissue repair [3].

Besides the natural processes of regeneration and repair, it is possible, through medical intervention, to fill lesions with natural or synthetic materials, aiming at the recovery of the compromised area, and conferring certain properties to the tissue, avoiding, for example, exacerbation of the initial lesion or the evolution of degenerative processes [1,7].

The three approaches can be used in tissue engineering, targeting regenerative medicine, as they allow the recovery of compromised areas in different degrees. However, the primary objective is regeneration, recomposition of the original tissue and resumption of the biomechanical and molecular properties, with the normal performance of their functions [1,7-8].

Tissue regeneration involves cell recruitment, growth, proliferation and differentiation, with the latter representing a crucial stage for the success of regeneration, avoiding the formation of fibrous tissue characteristic of the repair [9-12]. Tissues with greater regenerative capacity, such as the skin and liver, intrinsically present cells able to migrate to occupy the affected region, and the same cells maintain the proliferative capacity, enabling occupation of the lesion [3]. In other tissues the regenerative capacity is even more impaired. In the cartilage, for example, the cells remain embedded in the extracellular matrix, and the absence of blood vessels inhibits the presence of other types of component cell in the tissue; even the cell migration and proliferation processes are compromised. In general, regeneration and repair processes do not occur naturally in these cases, requiring surgical intervention to stimulate the subchondral bone marrow, thus enabling the presence of cells capable of tissue repair in the compromised area [13]. Other scientific techniques and methodologies seek alternatives to enable the processes both of repair and of tissue regeneration [9-12,14-16].

Anyhow the final stage of the abovementioned processes, cell differentiation, is critical. An understanding of the mechanisms that lead to the differentiation process in adult organisms allows the proposition of improvements in existing technologies and of alternatives geared towards the optimization of guided tissue regeneration processes, in regenerative medicine.

The evidence for continent drift theory is that places with hot climates once had glaciers. Therefore, option B is correct.

What is continental drift theory?

According to the Theory of Continental Drift, the continents of the Earth move relative to one another and appear to be drifting over the ocean floor together.

Wegener constructed a ring around the south pole using the regions that had been ice-covered. The conclusion of the theory is, Over the past 300 million years, the continents have drifted to their present locations after having formerly been a single, bigger continent.

The fit of the continents, the distribution of prehistoric fossils, rocks, and mountain ranges, as well as the placements of prehistoric climatic zones, were all used as evidence for continental drift. Hence, option B is correct.

Achieving Anastasia’s Dream
Part 1
Remember Anastasia? To refresh your memory, she is a high school science teacher who has the dream of traveling the world. Anastasia decides that if she teaches a science course online, she will be able to work from anywhere in the world if she has an internet connection.
To construct her course, Anastasia needs to put together a rough course calendar. Her course is going to be on biology or the study of living organisms. The course has eight sections, with each section covering three to six subtopics. Each subtopic takes a week to cover.
Here are the sections in the course. To help Anastasia out, do some research online and find at least three subtopics for each section. (You could look at websites such as k12.com or textbook publishers such as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt or Prentice Hall to see what topics are typically covered in these types of courses).
Biology Foundations
Cells
Energy and Transport
Reproduction and Cell Division
Classical Genetics
Molecular Genetics
Human Body Systems
Ecology
That is a lot to fit in! Anastasia needs her course to consist of 36 weeks’ worth of lessons. Create a 36-week chart to help Anastasia fill in her lessons so that she knows when each topic will be covered. Fill in the subtopics that you found and spread them out evenly so that all topics are covered in Anastasia’s 36-week period. Anastasia will use your chart as a course calendar. Don’t forget that one subtopic takes a week to cover. Some sections may take more weeks to cover than others, depending on the number of subtopics included, and that is just fine!

Grassland ecosystems in Texas have evolved to depend on periodic fires to return nutrients to the soil and encourage plant reproduction. Humans have prevented fires in many of these grassland areas, resulting in plant and animal communities with little diversity. Wildlife biologists often recommend purposefully starting fires called prescribed burns, which are monitored and controlled, in grassland ecosystems every 3 to 4 years. These biologists observe greater diversity in plant and animal life in the years following a prescribed burn. What natural processes are the biologists attempting to imitate

Answers

Answer:

Succession

Explanation:

The biologists were attempting to imitate succession.

Succession refers to a gradual change to the structure and species composition of a community over a period of time.

A newly colonized environment such as a bare rock forms a community is said to be in primary succession. Thereafter, the structure and composition of the community keep changing until a relatively stable community, otherwise known as climax community, is established.

Secondary succession happens when a disturbed community tries to regain its original dynamics in terms of species composition and structure. A climax community is often less diverse than a community that is still in active succession.

Hence, the biologists were attempting to imitate succession by burning/disturning a relatively stable, less diverse climax community of grassland in order to realize a more diverse community that will undergo secondary succession.
