I believe students should be able to read scary stories at school. To start, stories aren’t as scary as actual jump scares that might occur in something such as a horror movie or film. Books are just text on your paper, it isn’t something to feel fright over.

According to Book Trust, scary stories help children deal with real world issues and how to cope with them better. I strongly agree that hiding these issues from kids won’t help them later on in life. Children need to learn these skills in order to know what to do in a situation like that.

In conclusion, scary stories aren’t that scary, and help kids combat problems that come their way better.

What Caused The American Civil War?

There were many reasons for a Civil War to happen in America, and political issues and disagreements began soon after the American Revolution ended in 1782. Between the years 1800 and 1860, arguments between the North and South grew more intense. One of the main quarrels was about taxes paid on goods brought into this country from foreign countries. This tax was called a tariff. Southerners felt these tariffs were unfair and aimed toward them because they imported a wider variety of goods than most Northern people. Taxes were also placed on many Southern goods that were shipped to foreign countries, an expense that was not always applied to Northern goods of equal value. An awkward economic structure allowed states and private transportation companies to do this, which also affected Southern banks that found themselves paying higher interest rates on loans made with banks in the North. The situation grew worse after several “panics,” including one in 1857 that affected more Northern banks than Southern. Southern financiers found themselves burdened with high payments just to save Northern banks that had suffered financial losses through poor investment.

Answers

Answer:

No. 1:

A. His parties are lavish and extravagant

No. 2:

B. To add more mystery about Gatsby’s character

No. 3:

C. Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all, came for the party with a simplicity of heart that was its own ticket of admission.

Explanation:

What the readers can infer from this description of Gatsby’s parties is that "his parties are lavish and extravagant". The author describes the atmosphere to be elegant and extravagant. There's lots of music and dancing. It tends to symbolize the shallowness of the upper class.

The author decided to have Gatsby formally invite Nick through a chauffeur rather than Gatsby personally inviting him - this adds more mystery about Gatsby’s character. In the story, people that came for the party do not easily locate their host. This shows a mysterious part of Gatsby's character.

Which is the best definition of "immerse"?

O to reject something because it is upsetting
O to decide whether something is good or bad

Answers

Answer:

A To become deeply involoved in something

Explanation:

Brainliest please

Answer:

To become deeply involved with something.

Explanation:

Using contextual clues, we can infer that this is the correct use of the word "immersed". For example, the teacher suggested that Melinda pick one of her favorite hobbies. By this statement, it isn't likely that Melinda would then "reject [that hobby] because it is upsetting" or "decide whether [that hobby] is good or bad", because we know that she's been advised to pick a topic that is already her favorite. Additionally, it is not logical that immersed means "to work with others to achieve something" because the teacher is asking her to "immerse" herself in just that activity and only that activity. This would imply that Melinda would be doing this alone, and there is not much to be achieved of singing outside of recreational purposes. Lastly, immersed does indeed mean "to become deeply involved in something". None of the answers make logical sense due to the context given, and this one fits the best.

THE MATCH

There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.

Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature—by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.

In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.
