What was Twain previously revealed that creates foreshadowing in this description

Although Twain does not make extensive use of foreshadowing in Huckleberry Finn, he does utilize it to build up the novel's principal tensions, particularly the fight over assisting Jim.

Early in the narrative, the Widow Douglas tells Huck about hell, "the nasty place," and how she has lived her life in order to get to paradise, "the nice place," when she dies. Huck concludes that he'd rather be anywhere the Widow Douglas isn't since he doesn't completely comprehend the concept of heaven and hell in Christian theology.

As a result, he tells her about his fondness for "the horrible location." This discussion foreshadows Huck's decision to continue assisting Jim in his escape.

The Walk Home
1Micah and his younger sister had a long walk from the schoolhouse to their parents’ homestead. The road stretched for miles through a still, dusty meadow, where the sun scorched overhead mercilessly on hot days. So, during the summers, when the locusts buzzed from dawn to dusk, and the rattlesnakes displayed themselves boldly on sun-baked boulders, Micah and Teresa usually chose the longer, cooler path through the forest.

2The forest path was undeniably longer, winding haphazardly in a somewhat irregular pattern through the woods, but it offered a blissful canopy of shade, and the creek that trickled alongside cooled the air even more. The path meandered further from the settlement than their parents would ever have allowed them to go, but on the whole it was a much more enjoyable walk and worth the risk of a scolding.

3One miserably hot day, when even the forest seemed more like a furnace, Teresa plopped down under a giant magnolia tree growing by the creek. “I’m exhausted,” she groaned, reaching over into the cool creek to splash some water on her freckled face. Micah fidgeted.

4“C’mon, Teresa,” he said, looking around impatiently. “I don’t like being this far out. Besides, we have to—”

5“Hey, look at this,” Teresa interrupted. She was kneeling on the banks, inspecting the bushes growing through the tree’s gnarled roots. “Some of these leaves have been folded back. Something’s been through here recently.” She pushed aside a young cedar sapling, and they both saw the unmistakable outline of a footprint. “Not something—some one,” she whispered. Micah’s eyes widened, and his breath froze. He took a step back, suddenly painfully conscious of the loudness of their voices and the crackle of the twigs underneath their feet.

6“No one from town comes through here,” he said. “No one comes out this far. And, hey, you know what? Neither do we. C’mon, Teresa, let’s find the path again and we’ll–”

7“People do,” Teresa said firmly, her voice resolute. “The Akokisa do.”

8Micah drew a deep breath. Running into an Akokisa could potentially be very, very bad news. Recently, relations between the settlers and the Akokisa had become particularly tense because the settlers kept demanding more and more land, and the Akokisa were growing increasingly impatient. They didn’t want to give up the territory that had been theirs for ages, and hostilities were escalating quickly.

9The problem was, as Micah knew, that didn’t mean a thing to Teresa. Micah knew his sister better than anyone in the world. She was the most adventurous person he’d ever met. She’d charge into a burning house just to see what the fire felt like. She was always so eager to discover and experience things for herself that the words “caution” and “safety” hardly seemed to be part of her vocabulary. Micah knew that Teresa wouldn’t mind running into an Akokisa one bit. In fact, if she could follow those footprints back to the Akokisa village and meet the tribe, she’d do it in a heartbeat. Problem was, it could be the last heartbeat she’d ever have.

10Teresa’s eyes blazed as her voice sliced through the stillness. “I’m going,” she said. “You don’t have to come, but you’re not going to stop me.”

"The Walk Home" by Lacy Call.

What originally brought Micah and Teresa to the forest?

A
There was a giant magnolia tree growing near the creek.

B
They were looking for signs of the Akokisa.

C
It was too hot to take the regular road home from school.

D

The American Dental Association advises using fluoride toothpaste and brushing for two minutes each time, twice daily. Plaque is a sticky, bacterial-filled coating that forms on your teeth and is removed when you brush your teeth.

What is the optimum time you should clean your teeth for twice a day?

To maintain the health of your teeth and mouth, brush your teeth twice a day for about two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. If you don't wash your teeth thoroughly, a coating of bacteria called plaque will form on them.

Even though this isn't necessarily a terrible thing, your teeth can become damaged if you start brushing too much or for too long. In rare cases, brushing more frequently than three times per day and for longer than two minutes can wear down your tooth enamel and harm your gums.

What: The case centered around the constitutionality of a Louisiana law that mandated racial segregation on trains and other public facilities. Plessy argued that the law violated the 13th and 14th amendments of the Constitution, which guarantee equal protection under the law. The Supreme Court, in a 7-1 decision, upheld the constitutionality of the Louisiana law, ruling that "separate but equal" facilities for different races were constitutional as long as they were of equal quality.

Doubting Rhea
by Samantha Dias

Rachel and Rhea had been best friends since kindergarten and thought they would be best friends forever. But once they began middle school, Rachel began to feel that Rhea was growing distant from her. They didn’t spend as much time together as they did in elementary school. They were in different clubs and had different classes. Over the past few weeks, Rhea had been avoiding Rachel, or so Rachel thought. This coming weekend would mark a month since they had last spoken. Rachel worried that Rhea had tired of her. The thought made Rachel want to run up to Rhea and demand an explanation, but instead she burst into silent sobs.

Saturday was Rachel’s birthday. She had planned a little party just for her and Rhea. But when the time came, Rhea didn’t show up. Rachel was sure her friend couldn’t have forgotten her birthday, and she waited all evening for her call. Rachel was about to give up, when she heard the doorbell. There stood Rhea at the front door shouting, “Hey, Birthday girl!!”

Rachel frowned, “So you finally remembered.”

“What do you mean?” Rhea asked. “Of course I remembered. It’s the reason I haven’t been able to meet you these past weeks.”

Rachel replied warily, “You really think I’m going believe that?”

Rhea smiled. “When you see your gift, you’ll have no choice but to believe me.”

Rhea led Rachel to a nearby playground, where a stage had been set up. Rhea beamed at Rachel as the members of Incandescent Chihuahua, Rachel’s favorite band, walked onto the stage.

Rachel hugged her friend. “I don’t believe my eyes! How did you do this?”

Rhea smiled, “I wanted your 15th birthday to be special. You missed their concert last year. Their agent owed my dad a favor, but my dad said I had to earn it. So I’ve been working as his assistant for the last month, which is the reason I’ve been so busy. I couldn’t say anything because it’s so hard for me to keep a secret from you.”

Rachel couldn’t believe how petty she had been and promised herself that she would never jump to conclusions again.
