What is the difference between the Teller Amendment and Platt Amendment in
regards to Cuba?

Answers

Answer:

Teller and Platt Amendments

In April 1898 Senator Henry M. Teller (Colorado) proposed an amendment to the U.S. declaration of war against Spain which proclaimed that the United States would not establish permanent control over Cuba. It stated that the United States "hereby disclaims any disposition of intention to exercise sovereignty, jurisdiction, or control over said island except for pacification thereof, and asserts its determination, when that is accomplished, to leave the government and control of the island to its people." The Senate passed the amendment on April 19. True to the letter of the Teller Amendment, after Spanish troops left the island in 1898, the United States occupied Cuba until 1902.

1. Main Idea. In your own words, explain how Henry Wallace's views changed between 1941 and
1948.
2.What point does this cartoon seem to make about those changes?

Answers

Answer:

1. Henry Wallace, former vice president and Progressive Party presidential candidate, lashes out at the Cold War policies of President Harry S. Truman. Wallace and his supporters were among the few Americans who actively voiced criticisms of America’s Cold War mindset during the late-1940s and 1950s.

Widely admired for his intelligence and integrity, Henry Wallace had served as vice president to Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1941 to 1945. After Harry S. Truman succeeded to the presidency upon Roosevelt’s death in April 1945, Wallace was named secretary of commerce, but Wallace did not get along with Truman. A true liberal, Wallace was harshly critical of what he perceived as Truman’s backtracking from the social welfare legislation of the New Deal era. Wallace was also disturbed about U.S. policy toward the Soviet Union. During World War II, he came to admire the Soviet people for their tenacity and sacrifice. Like Roosevelt, he believed that the United States could work with Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in the postwar world.

2. Political and editorial cartoons have long been a part of the propaganda that influences the masses. Originating during the Protestant Reformation in Germany, this visual indoctrination gave support to the cause of Martin Luther's religious reforms. Because of the high illiteracy rate among the public at the time, these cartoons became known for their straightforward simple pictorial nature. American political cartooning assumed this direct appeal to the masses as well. Tracing its origins to Benjamin Franklin and his cartoons asking for unity during the American Revolution were the first of their kind in the new country.

Read the paragraph and answer the question. When Philipp Grimm died in 1796, the family was reduced to near poverty. Jakob looked after the other children; even Wilhelm obeyed him. Only help from relatives allowed Jakob and Wilhelm to go to high school. Some teachers looked down on them for being poor, but the boys took honors as the best students. How did the family become poor in the article?

Their father died when the boys were young. They were always poor. Their school tuition was very expensive. Jakob and Wilhelm were struggling writers.

Answers

Answer:

Their father died when the boys were young.

Explanation:

The paragraph states that after Philipp Grimm died, the family became poor. It is a direct cause-and-effect situation. It would not be the second answer choice because they were reduced to poverty which means they were not always poor. The paragraph does not state that the high school was expensive just that they needed financial assistance for 2 of the boys. The passage does not mention that Jakob and Wilhelm were struggling writers.

Which city did Burgoyne plan on taking over?

Answers

Answer:

New York City

Explanation:

In 1777, British war generals devised a plan to bring a quick end to the war: They would effectively sever New England from the rest of the colonies by taking control of New York City, Albany, and the Hudson River. First, British General John Burgoyne would lead 8,000 troops from Canada.

Answer:

The plan called for Burgoyne to advance south from Canada, up to Lake Champlain, capture Ft. Ticonderoga, and then march south along the Hudson to Albany. There he would join Sir William Howe, who would advance north along the Hudson River from New York City, already under British control.

A. Senators
B. Citizens
C. Consuls
D. Tribunes
SUBMIT

Answers

Answer:

C. Consuls.

Explanation:

Power in the Roman Republic was distributed among various levels, among which the post of a consul is the highest elected post. This post is held by individuals that are elected by the citizens for a one-year term.

Consuls are similar to that of head-of-states. They had power over the military, represented the state in foreign affairs, and also presided over important sessions or events. Every year, two individuals are elected to be the consul, but with the coming of emperors, the power of the consuls declined as the emperor held most of the high-authority powers.

Whom did the early trade unions typically represent?

A) railroad workers exclusively
B) skilled workers in a particular trade
C) unskilled workers in large cities
D) women and minorities

Answers

Answer:

skilled workers in a particular trade

Explanation:

Early trade unions tended to represent knowledgeable workers in a certain trade. As a result, choice (B) is the best way to respond.

What are trade unions?

A trade union is a membership-based organization, which means that the majority of its members must be employees.

To safeguard and advance the interests of its members at work is one of a trade union's key objectives.

The majority of unions operate independently of all employers. Trade unions do their best to establish solid working relationships with businesses, nevertheless. This can occasionally take the shape of an agreement between the company and the union that outlines their shared goals and interests.

Trade unions accompany members in disciplinary and grievance meetings, negotiate agreements with employers on wages and conditions and debate significant changes to the workplace, such as mass redundancies. They also offer members legal and financial advice.

Hence, option (B) is accurate.

1. It wasn’t. Although it is unknown who precisely built and inhabited the city, there are some theories. Aztecs found the city and started using it for various purposes but it was in ruins by the time they found it. Building such pyramids did require large amount of cooperation between people because there was no modern building technology and numerous people had to participate.

2. Before agriculture was developed, people lived as hunters and gatherers in nomadic tribes. This meant that they would use the goods from the nature before moving to another region with more food. When agriculture was discovered, they didn’t have to move anymore and could grow food and stay in one place which led to rise of civilizations.

3. Mayan and Aztec religion consisted of a polytheistic pantheon where each deity would represent a different aspect of life. They showed respect to them in various ways, from organizing religious festivals to building huge temples and even including various types of sacrifices to the gods, including sometimes even human sacrifice.

4. Religion was a huge part of their lives and Mayas and Aztecs all participated in various religious rituals to appease the gods. Both societies were also organized into clear societal hierarchies with rulers, farmers, priests, and similar groups. They also emphasized art as well which often depicted everyday activities and was about being realistic.

5. In the Mayan society there was the ruler, the higher class, and the lower class. The ruler was on top while people like priests, judges, and government officials comprised the high class. The lower class consisted of people like artisans or farmers or commoners. The Aztecs also had the king as the ruler, followed by the priests who were the second highest rank, nobles being third, while merchants and artisans were second to last. The lowest social group were farmers and commoners, also including slaves.

6. They did have a written language but most of it was lost unfortunately. For example, the Aztecs had a writing system that combines ideographic writing with Nahuatl specific phonetic logograms and syllabic signs which was mostly destroyed by emperors who did it for ideological reasons, or later by Spaniards who conquered them

7. Chichimecas or Chichimes were people that were considered by the Aztecs and Mayas to be barbarians, similarly to how the Romans looked at the Germanic tribes. They were nomadic people who mostly lived in the Valley of Mexico and were disliked by Aztecs and Mayans, later even by the Spaniards.

Answers

Answer:

not approved by a union

Explanation:

It is TRUE that the wildcat strike by employees of the Pullman Company in 1894 was not approved by a union.

This is evident in the fact that when the United States government waded into the issue of strike, they forced the American Railway Union to call off the strike as there are majority of Union leaders that were not in support of the strike.

The strike only lasted between May 1894 to mid of July 1894.

Hence, in this case, the correct answer to the question is that the strike was not approved by the Union leaders.
