A genetically modified organism is any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. The exact definition of a genetically modified organism and what constitutes genetic engineering varies, with the most common being an organism altered in a way that "does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination". Genes have been transferred within the same species, across species, and even across kingdoms. New genes can be introduced, or endogenous genes can be enhanced, altered, or knocked out. A wide variety of organisms have been genetically modified, from animals to plants and microorganisms. In 1994 the Flavr Savr tomato was released, the first commercialized genetically modified food. The first genetically modified animal to be commercialized was the GloFish and the first genetically modified animal to be approved for food use was the AquAdvantage salmon in 2015. Many objections have been raised over the development of GMOs, particularly their commercialization. Many of these involve GM crops and whether food produced from them is safe and what impact growing them will have on the environment. Other concerns are the objectivity and rigor of regulatory authorities, contamination of non-genetically modified food, control of the food supply, patenting of life, and the use of intellectual property rights. Although there is a scientific consensus that currently available food derived from GM crops poses no greater risk to human health than conventional food, GM food safety is a leading issue with critics.
What constitutes a genetically modified organism is not always clear and can vary widely. At its broadest, it can include anything that has had its genes altered, including by nature. Taking a less broad view it can encompass every organism that has had its genes altered by humans, which would include all crops and livestock. There are examples of crops that fit this definition but are not normally considered GMOs. The genetically engineered organism can be considered a more precise term compared to GMO when describing organisms' genomes that have been directly manipulated with biotechnology. The term GMO originally was not typically used by scientists to describe genetically engineered organisms until after usage of GMO became common in popular media. The United States Department of Agriculture considers GMOs to be plants or animals with heritable changes introduced by genetic engineering or traditional methods, while GEO specifically refers to organisms with genes introduced, eliminated, or rearranged using molecular biology, particularly recombinant DNA techniques, such as transgenesis.
The first genetically modified crop, an antibiotic-resistant tobacco plant, was produced in 1982. China was the first country to commercialize transgenic plants, introducing a virus-resistant tobacco in 1992. In 1994 Calgene attained approval to commercially release the Flavr Savr tomato, the first genetically modified food. Also in 1994, the European Union approved tobacco engineered to be resistant to the herbicide bromoxynil, making it the first genetically engineered crop commercialized in Europe. The first genetically modified animal to be commercialized was the GloFish, a Zebrafish with a fluorescent gene added that allows it to glow in the dark under ultraviolet light. It was released to the US market in 2003. In 2015 AquAdvantage salmon became the first genetically modified animal to be approved for food use. Approval is for fish raised in Panama and sold in the US.
Bacteria
For over a century bacteria have been used in agriculture. Crops have been inoculated with Rhizobia to increase their production or to allow them to be grown outside their original habitat. Application of Bacillus thuringiensis and other bacteria can help protect crops from insect infestation and plant diseases. With advances in genetic engineering, these bacteria have been manipulated for increased efficiency and expanded host range. Markers have also been added to aid in tracing the spread of the bacteria. The bacteria that naturally colonize certain crops have also been modified, in some cases to express the Bt genes responsible for pest resistance. This led to the development of ice-minus bacteria, which have the ice-forming genes removed. When applied to crops they can compete with the non-modified bacteria and confer some frost resistance. Other uses for genetically modified bacteria include bioremediation, where the bacteria are used to convert pollutants into a less toxic form. Genetic engineering can increase the levels of the enzymes used to degrade a toxin or to make the bacteria more stable under environmental conditions.

Harvard, Favorite fictional character
Of all the characters that I've "met" through books and movies, two stand out as people that I most want to emulate. They are Attacus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird and Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham from Field of Dreams. They appeal to me because they embody what I strive to be. They are influential people in small towns who have a direct positive effect on those around them. I, too, plan to live in a small town after graduating from college, and that positive effect is something I must give in order to be satisfied with my life.
Both Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham are strong supporting characters in wonderful stories. They symbolize good, honesty, and wisdom. When the story of my town is written I want to symbolize those things. The base has been formed for me to live a productive, helpful life. As an Eagle Scout I represent those things that Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham represent. In the child/adolescent world I am Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham, but soon I'll be entering the adult world, a world in which I'm not yet prepared to lead.
I'm quite sure that as teenagers Attacus Finch and Moonlight Graham often wondered what they could do to help others. They probably emulated someone who they had seen live a successful life. They saw someone like my grandfather, 40-year president of our hometown bank, enjoy a lifetime of leading, sharing, and giving. I have seen him spend his Christmas Eves taking gifts of food and joy to indigent families. Often when his bank could not justify a loan to someone in need, my grandfather made the loan from his own pocket. He is a real-life Moonlight Graham, a man who has shown me that characters like Dr. Graham and Mr. Finch do much much more than elicit tears and smiles from readers and movie watchers. Through him and others in my family I feel I have acquired the values and the burning desire to benefit others that will form the foundation for a great life. I also feel that that foundation is not enough. I do not yet have the sophistication, knowledge, and wisdom necessary to succeed as I want to in the adult world. I feel that Harvard, above all others, can guide me toward the life of greatness that will make me the Attacus Finch of my town.

Which event introduces the solution in this passage?
Tamica stood gasping at the window next to the gate, watching her plane taxi down the runway. It gained speed, its nose tilted skyward, and then it left the ground behind, tucking up its now-unneeded wheels as it soared toward the United States. This was not only Tamica's plane, it was also the night's last plane from London to the United States.
Tamica sat down right where she was to think. Her semester in the small English town of Sheffield was over, and she was supposed to be flying home right now. She'd moved out of the flat she'd shared with other students and all of her belongings were now airborne. She was faced with a long night in the airport or a night in the unfamiliar city of London.
"Mom, what am I going to do?" Tamica groaned on the phone.
"Tamica, I have a friend who lives near Heathrow Airport in London. I'll call her and try to have her come get you. Does that sound alright?"
"Yes, thank you!" Tamica exclaimed.
Outside the airport, Tamica sat down once again, still without luggage, but with a calmer mind. Home would have to wait until tomorrow.
Tamica spending a semester abroad in England
Tamica waiting outside for her ride
Tamica's phone call with her mom
Tamica missing her flight

She was left clueless about how to spend the long night at the Heathrow airport but after the call, she gets to way to get out of this problem as one of her mom's friend live near the airport. Thus, this event brings a solution to her problem and hence, option C is the correct answer.

Tell the story of a time that you faced failure in your life and learned something important from it. In your response, be sure to explain how you failed and the ways in which this failure led to an unusual outcome.
The correct answer to this open question is the following.
This is the story of a time in that I faced failure in my life and learned something important from it.
It was a time when everything seemed to favor me in school, in athletics, in my personal life, and even with my personal aspirations. This made me an arrogant person. I thought that I needed no one to help me. That I was capable of doing things on my own. I even had some bad conduct with my family and my father really got angry at me.
Of course, my mother warned me but I paid no heed. I supposed to know everything.
I even parted ways with some good old friends.
How wrong I was.
There comes life to teach me a big lesson.
For whatever reason and made some bad decisions and then, trouble started. And there, I was completely alone because I myself turned away from friends and family.
In desperate moments, some of those all friends lend me a helping hand when I least expected. I cried. What a humble lesson! They did not care and help me out of my main problems. After my rude behavior, after I turned my back and left, they forgive me and taught me a great lesson.
We cannot do things alone. We always need the support of someone, in the right place at the right time.
I had to offer an apology. To my friends, to my family, to all the people I hurt. Because despite my arrogance, they were there when I need them.
That was a true friendship lesson from my friends and a true love lesson from my family.

9. What ends the Hannukah celebration?
Answer:
Hanukkah is a Jewish festival that lasts eight days, commemorating the 'oil miracle' in Jerusalem's Second Temple in 164 BC. The first day of this festival begins after sunset on the 24th day of the Jewish month of Kislew.
The feast marks the rededication of the Second Temple in 164 BC celebrated by Judas Maccabeus. After the rededication, according to the description of the miracle of the oil in the Talmud, only one jar of kosher oil was available to burn the menorah during the cleansing of the Temple. However, the jar did not run out until fresh pure oil was prepared, but poured enough oil to keep the menorah burning for eight days. Therefore, Hanuka ends at the end of the eighth day of festivities.
