Think of all the accessibility amenities you've gotten used to seeing since July 26, 1990, the day the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law: Wheelchair ramps leading into government buildings; Support rails in restroom stalls; ATM keypads and elevator buttons in Braille.

Despite these improvements, people with disabilities still struggle in many areas, including one you might not think much about: clothing.

Cute Canes, Like Eyeglass Frames

Liz Jackson spends a lot of time thinking about the intersection of fashion and disability. She's a trim, tomboyish 33-year-old with a Jimmy Neutron pompadour, and she limps — sometimes a lot.

Back in 2012, she fell out of bed and ended up in the hospital, emerging three days later with a cane, prescription eyeglasses and a diagnosis of idiopathic neuropathy, an autoimmune condition that weakens the nerves in her arms and legs.

"One of the sensations I have is that run-down feeling [you get] before you get sick," Jackson says. "I have that all the time because my body is continuously fighting something."

> THE REAL MCCOY

There once was a man named Elijah McCoy. He was born in 1843 in Canada. One day, he wiped the sweat that glistened on his forehead. He looked down at his new invention. He knew it would be important.

Elijah's parents were once slaves. Some slaves ran away from their owners. Many people did not believe in slavery. They helped slaves escape to Canada. It was illegal to own slaves in Canada. The people and paths to Canada were called The Underground Railroad. It was not underground and it was not a railroad, but that is what they called it. Elijah's parents escaped slavery by taking the Underground Railroad to Canada.

Elijah's father was in the army in Canada. As a reward for doing a good job, he was given land. In 1843, Elijah was born. Three years later, they sold the land and moved to Michigan.

They had big plans for Elijah. He was very smart, so he went to study trains and engines in Scotland. When he got back, he got a job working with steam engines. Steam engines were used in trains, ships, and factories.

One problem with steam engines is that they blew up. To keep them from blowing up, they needed oil. At first, a person had to stand by the engine and squirt oil on moving parts. Later, machines were invented to do this by themselves. The machines let oil out through a valve. McCoy had seen one of these machines. McCoy made some changes to one to make it work better. It did. He got a patent for it. He had invented something important.

Trains were very important back then. Elijah's invention helped make trains run faster and better. A big company took his idea and made a lot of money from it. They were very happy with Elijah's invention.

Have you ever heard of the "real McCoy?" If something is genuine or real, people say that it is the "real McCoy." Some people think that the saying started with Elijah. As the story goes, Elijah's invention was much better than the other inventions. When people would get an oil valve, they would ask "is this the real McCoy?" This might be where that saying came from.

Elijah McCoy lived to invent many other things and received fifty-seven patents for different machines. One of them was a lawn sprinkler. He encouraged young people to try really hard. He also wanted them to use their imagination. "If you do this," he was quoted as saying, "you can accomplish anything.

Recently, some local high schools have decided to change to a later start time, 8:30 am, based on studies saying teenagers need more sleep to be more effective in school. Would you want to come to school later if it meant having to stay later? Why or why not? Please write a 7 sentence response.

Answers

Answer:

I would, yes because more sleep is healthy, and you'd be more awake in the morning when school time comes around. The average kid needs at least 8 hours of sleep a night. This being said, if kids have to get up at, say 6AM to catch the bus in the morning, and they went to bed a little late they might not be rested enough. Another point is school starts incredibly early in the morning, and you are always tired for the first few periods. Having later school times would solve this, as you could wake up a little later, feel more well rested. Later school hours also gives kids the chance to wake up more by the time first period starts. Later school hours might even benefit teachers in some ways as well.

Yes I would definitely choose that even if I just stay at school later I don’t really care because if I get more sleep I will have more energy during the day and so I’ll be able to get my work done a lot easier even though it means that I have to stay at school a little later it’s definitely worth it

Read the following passage: Pirithous aspired to the wife of the monarch of Erebus; and Theseus, though aware of the danger, accompanied the ambitious lover in his descent to the underworld. But Pluto seized and set them on an enchanted rock at his palace gate, where they remained till Hercules arrived and liberated Theseus, leaving Pirithous to his fate. Why could this passage be considered an example of situational irony? Theseus willingly walked into danger. Theseus had to be rescued by the one he was trying to emulate. OMG SO I KNOW THIS IS A LOT BUT I NEED AN 100-150 WORD PARAGRAPH ABOUT HOW SOCEITY AFFECTS OUR BODY PLS OMG I RLLY NEED THIS

Answers

Answer:

Society effects our body in many ways. Trends, body standards, health articles, an image of what we all should look like, and many more. Girls get bullied and body shamed if we are overweight, underweight, skinny. Society started making a beauty standard that has caused girls to be insecure about their body and to get very sick from the extreme diets they put themselves through. This doesn't just happen to girls but to boys too. If a guy is too tall then he will be bullied but if he's too short then no one will pay attention to them. Weight is another thing that boys have to deal with too, They can't be too thin because then their weak but they can't be too muscular or else they will be ignored. Society made people overthink and become insecure about their bodies just because they made a beauty standard. In the time we live in today people are starting to break that vision of beauty to just be who you are and not something society wants you to be. This beauty revolution will take time to set into reality but when that time comes the world will be filled we gorgeous and unique people. Why make everyone the same when we can all just be who we were born to be?

I tried out for the girls' basketball team when I was in seventh grade, and I'll never forget how nervous I was. The coach seemed to only be watching the older girls at tryouts, and I knew I'd have to be at my best to even get her attention. The next day, when they'd posted the names, I was ecstatic to see mine there beside the other team members. It was the happiest day of my young life.
But the unfortunate reality of school teams is that some kids get picked and others do not. I'd like to share some things that I believe helped me make that team. I'm hoping these tips might make your own tryouts, no matter what the sport or activity, a little less nerve-wracking, and maybe give you a bit more control over the outcome.
First, you need to be conscientious and alert at tryouts. Pay close attention to what you're being instructed to do, whether it's running a drill or observing a demonstration. Keep your eyes on the coach and be ready to jump when called. This will convey that you really want to be there. Also, follow directions to the letter, which will also show that you're "coachable" and not a prima donna or a lazybones.
Next, be a scrapper. Whatever the sport, make sure you're the one who's going the extra mile, who's diving for a volleyball or scrambling to return an impossibly deep backhand in tennis. Don't think of it as "kissing up" to the coach, but as working hard to impress, which is what you're there to do.
Finally, I mentioned "coachability" above. This is a vital quality coaches seek that you need to try to embody. Basically it means being flexible and listening well. Whatever the coaches say to you during tryouts, take their comments immediately to heart. If the coach says, "Hey, Herlinger, ya gotta plant both feet when you're blocking someone under the basket so you don't draw the foul," you answer, "Right, Coach, thanks," and you apply it immediately. Then you check back with the coach to make sure you did it correctly.
It can be a fine line between bugging the coaches and making sure they notice you. But just keep in mind, when they sit down after the tryouts and scratch their heads about whom to select, they need to be able to easily call up your face and name. If you did your job, they'll remember you with a smile and a nod and know they'd be proud to have you on the team. But if you don't make the cut, don't lose heart; there's always next time. See if you can get on a junior varsity or intramural team so you can work on your moves. That'll give you a leg up when next year's tryouts come along.

A.
We cannot predict the future.

B.
Technology is helpful and continues to develop.

C.
More advanced technology is more important than simple inventions.

D.
New inventions do not make things better

Answers

C................C....

The theme of the poem is more advanced technology is more important than simple inventions. Hence option C is correct.

What is theme?

A theme is defined as an idea, notion, or lesson that conveys a moral lesson through a text's characters, surroundings, dialogue, plot, or other elements. Rather than the narrative or the summary, there is something a little deeper at work here. A theme links a text's action to a key idea about how things really are.

In numerous ways, inventions enhance our lives. They facilitate our work, amuse us, broaden our worldview, and occasionally even save lives. A machine's capacity to learn and act intelligently is referred to as artificial intelligence, or AI, and machine learning. This means that robots are able to make decisions, perform tasks, and even predict the future based on what they learn from data.

Thus, the theme of the poem is more advanced technology is more important than simple inventions. Hence option C is correct.
