How did people deal with the dust storms?
points!!!!

Answers

Answer 1

The 1930s were the first decade where the birth rate fell below 20 children for every 1,000 women. Never before had there been so few children living in the United States.

On Sunday, April 14, 1935, winds reached 60 miles an hour in the worst storm known as Black Sunday. It also carried dust for around 200 miles!

During the Dust Bowl, students were sent home from school to prevent "dust pneumonia". Sometimes, students were even kept over night because it was too dangerous to walk home in the dust storms.

Dust storms can cause static electricity. Drivers dragged chains behind their cars to ground them; otherwise, the engine would short out. If you reached out to shake someone's hand, the static shock would knock you both off your feet!

Explanation

fled from their state to one not dealing with the dust

wore face masks to avoid getting dust in their lungs

Answer 2
wet towels over their faces to keep the dust from getting in there, or fleeing to a safe state to get away from the dust.

describe how you prepare your favourite meal

Answers

Answer:

Flank steak with cilantro lime jersey sweet potatoes is my favorite meal to make.

Explanation:

Before anything, take a stick of butter out of the refrigerator to soften.

Sweet potatoes - Preheat the oven to 400. Take three or four white jersey sweet potatoes and peel them. Dice them into bite-sized chunks and place them in a bowl.

In another little bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of yogurt (of your choice, just not flavored), the juice of three limes, two freshly chopped cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, 4 tablespoons of olive oil, and one chopped head of cilantro. Add this mixture to the sweet potato bowl and mix it around so everything gets coated properly.

Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and lay out the potatoes across them. Try not to overlap them too much, or they'll cook unevenly. Leave them in the oven for 30-35 minutes, depending on how hot your oven gets.

Flank - While the potatoes are in the oven, take the flank out of the package and lay it flat on a cutting board. Use a meat tenderizer and thoroughly tenderize the meat, making sure you get all the edges, not just the middle. Heat up a large pan on medium-high heat with 1/3 of a stick of butter. Place the entire slab of meat (without cutting it) inside the pan. When one side is brown, flip to the other side. When both sides of the flank are browned, take the pan off the heat and leave the meat in there to cook until medium-rare (about 10 minutes). If you have a meat thermometer, it should reach about 125 degrees F.

Steak Butter - While the meat is sitting in the pan, take a good portion of the softened butter you took out of the refrigerator and place it into a bowl. Add about four tablespoons of dried parsley and three tablespoons of oregano. Add a bit of salt and pepper, don't add too much salt if you are using salted butter. Add either some powdered garlic or fresh garlic chopped really small. Mix all of it together with your hands, it doesn't matter if it melts a bit because you're placing it back in the refrigerator. Shape it into a ball and put it in a serving dish. Cover and place in the refrigerator to harden. Cut up a lemon to use as a garnish.

Flank - When the flank is done resting in the pan, place it on a cutting board. You want to slice it across the grain in very, very thin slices. This way, any tough parts of the meat will be dealt with by your knife, rather than trying to chew through them. Carefully slide your knife under the cuts of meat and try to transfer all of them to your serving dish, this part takes a bit of practice.

Sweet Potatoes - You're potatoes should be done at this point. Take them out of the oven if you can easily slide a fork through them and they are lightly browned. The texture of country potatoes is what you're going for. If they have reached this point, lift them up with the parchment paper and dump them into a serving bowl. You can add some fresh cilantro as a garnish if you want to.

At this point, all the cooking is done. Place the meat, potatoes, lemon slices, and butter on the table. The butter is best slathered all over the meat. Enjoy! :D

What is the Victorian theme in the poem “Beautiful City” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson?

Answer: social justice

Explanation:

How did the Greasers react to the beatings Johnny received from his father? What evidence is there in paragraphs 1-5 that the Greasers were more deeply affected by Johnny’s beating at the hands of the Socs? Why do you think this was the case? Cite specific evidence from the text to support your response?

PARAGRAPHS HERE:

We were used to seeing Johnny banged up—his father clobbered him around a lot, and although it made us madder than heck, we couldn't do anything about it. But those beatings had been nothing like this. Johnny’s face was cut up and bruised and swollen, and there was a wide gash from his temple to his cheekbone. He would carry that scar all his life. His white T-shirt was splattered with blood. I just stood there, trembling with sudden cold. I thought he might be dead; surely no one could be beaten like that and live. Steve closed his eyes for a second and muffled a groan as he dropped on his knees beside Soda.

Start of paragraph 2 of 16Somehow the gang sensed what had happened. Two-Bit was suddenly there beside me, and for once his comical grin was gone and his dancing gray eyes were stormy. Darry had seen us from our porch and ran toward us, suddenly skidding to a halt. Dally was there, too, swearing under his breath, and turning away with a sick expression on his face. I wondered about it vaguely. Dally had seen people killed on the streets of New York’s West Side. Why did he look sick now?

Start of paragraph 3 of 16“Johnny?” Soda lifted him up and held him against his shoulder. He gave the limp body a slight shake. “Hey, Johnnycake.”

Start of paragraph 4 of 16Johnny didn’t open his eyes, but there came a soft question. “Soda?”

Start of paragraph 5 of 16“Yeah, it’s me,” Sodapop said. “Don’t talk. You’re gonna be okay.”

Write a 3 paragraph essay about why University of Connecticut (UCONN) is your top college & why you would like to be there?? (I need someone to do this)

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Academics

The University of Connecticut may be “known for our amazing athletics,” but it’s also “one of the top research universities and state schools,” a “university [that] truly cares about their students.” As one political science major puts it, UConn is “unique because it is comprised of all different types of students both in backgrounds and ethnicities. What makes us different than other universities is our cohesiveness despite these differences. We all go to one school, we all cheer on the same team, and we all bleed blue.” While “basketball games are like religion,” students say that, “UConn is focused on academic achievement.” For one student, the school’s main appeal is that it is a “large, public university [with] a variety of programs and diversity on campus.”

Student Body

UConn students are typically “very diverse due to the large student body”—you can find “students who love to go out every weekend at the bar [and] you can find students whose hobby is knitting or [to] go to ComiCONN…there really is a peer group for everyone.” The students, “the majority of which are from Connecticut,” are “uniquely passionate and spirited.

Campus Life

“Since it’s a big school, there is always something going on on-campus, whether it’s free movies, lectures, concerts, food, or more.” For students who want to experience nature, “There’s always the opportunity to go outdoors and walk to Horsebarn Hill, go on runs around campus or go on hikes in the UConn forest.” Even though the campus a little off the beaten path—one transfer student laments “the nickname for Storrs is Snores”—students say “the downtown area has developed into its own mini city” with restaurants and cafés. As one student puts it, “I am never bored on the weekend between the many shows and concerts, movies and other activities offered by the university.” Greek life plays a significant role on campus—some say that “Greek life dominates many aspects of social scene,” while others say only that there are “frat parties if you’re into that kind of scene.”
