JUST CANT FIGURE THIS OOOUUUTTTTT (will give brainlyest) swear)
A Big Year
By Bob Kowalski

Would you go to the ends of the earth to see a bird? What if it were a really special bird: one with beautiful feathers, an entrancing call, or a silly dance? What if seeing that one special bird would allow you to win a contest?

If that contest doesn't get you on television or win you any cash prizes, would you still do it? For those who participate in the "Big Year," the honor of beating the previous record is the only reward they get or even want.

A "Big Year" is a year in which a person attempts to see as many different species of birds as possible within a particular region. For most in North America who participate in a "Big Year," this region is the lower 48 American states, plus Alaska, Canada, and a couple of French islands off the Canadian coast.

You may be thinking that looking at birds is silly, but just think about the numbers of the recent record holders and the commitment it takes to get these numbers. One recent "Big Year" winner managed to see 744 birds in one year, missing the record by just one bird. Big Year birders travel by train, plane, boat, car, bicycle, and of course, by foot. They can cover over 150 thousand miles to get numbers of sightings this high. They can also spend a small fortune.

Just to clarify, the birds these contestants are counting are the number that they see in a particular year. You see, the contest is based on an honor system. No pictures or other evidence is required as proof of a sighting. Most birders take great pride in their reputation and their abilities to see or hear and then identify a bird. Usually, important sightings of the rare birds needed to get counts in the 700s are visited by hundreds of birders. It is pretty hard to cheat your way to a record-breaking year, but in general, few are interested in cheating.

This honesty comes from the fact that most people who want to break such a record know the greatest rewards are not necessarily in winning. Such rewards are in being able to commit a year of your life to doing something you love. Rewards are found in seeing amazing, inspiring creatures like the California Condor or the Magnificent Frigate bird. Rewards also come in spending time with people who, like you, want to spend their time looking to the skies and trees for glimpses of emerald, crimson, or cerulean blue feathered jewels.

You don't have to be able to travel a continent to have a big birding experience though. Have a big month. Or a big weekend. Set a personal record, learn to identify the species that live in your part of the world, or try to learn the calls of just two species of birds. You will soon find looking at birds isn't such a strange way to spend your time.

Extra! Extra! Backyard Birding
Many schools, families, and young birders across the country participate in the "Great Backyard Bird Count." While not as long as a "Big Year," the "Great Backyard Bird Count" happens every year. It depends on birders and families across the country to watch feeders and other areas in their yards and count the number of birds they see. Unlike the "Big Year," the goal is not to see who can count the most birds. Instead, participants in this event work together to help bird experts get a good idea of how birds are doing. Participants are given checklists and enter their sightings on a website. Called a "citizen-science" project, this event is open to anyone, requires no travel, and happens every year over one weekend in February.

"For there is always light ". If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it. What does it mean to you? Explain how you came to believe in this idea or attitude.

Answers

Answer:

See explanation below

Explanation:

"For there is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it."

This is an excerpt from Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb". It was the Inaugural poem for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' Inauguration.

These days so many people wait for change and for things to get better. They are always looking to people other than themselves to be be the change they want to see.

The statement means that there is always light, there is always hope for change and for things to get better. It says that all hope is not lost but we have to be brave enough to see it. And we also have to brave enough to be that light, to give hope and to spread change. It all begins with you and I.

I came to believe this idea because if we look around and try to identify something good, we would see that it started with just one person. And that is how light spreads. If we share light to others, they in turn share it to others.

So, whatever change we want to see has to begin with us. There is always light, change and hope if only we see it and be it.

Archaeologists discovered that people came to the North American continent long ago possibly by crossing fifty-six miles between Asia and Alaska. While the date and details of their trip remain unknown, as nomads, they migrated during the spring and summer in search of food for their herds and camped during the winter. Eventually, they settled from the east coast to the tip of South America. Artifacts found from this era were used for hunting animals to get food and clothing.

Your task is to watch some commercials and to guess how they achieve their persuasive effect. Commercials are not the same as an act of rhetorical public speech, but they do have a lot to teach us about psychological manipulation. Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded means. Understanding how this works can then help us to identify it when it is used in public speeches. Take around five commercials and write a paragraph of 50-100 words on each, identifying all of the techniques used to persuade the audience that the product is worth buying. Think carefully about the images and words that are used. What emotional response is provoked by the commercial? Are celebrities or so-called “experts” brought in to provide proof? Is this proof valid?

For my second video, I decided to watch the "taco bells, Nacho Fries" They did a great marketing strategy. During the time Horror movies were a big trend but unfortunately, taco bell was selling food, not a movie. So they decided to make the first few seconds seem like it was a horror movie but while still have the nacho fries on the screen. Then they showed the nacho fries as the villain or horror. That made the viewer intrigued. Even if at that point they decide to skip the video, they won't forget it. Like I said earlier, horror movies were big at that time, so even if they wanted to forget it would be a challenge. Also because they continued watching means that they were interested in the commercial.

When watching Hulu I found this ad and fell in love with it. The song was so catchy that my brother and I sing it for fun. The actors portray amazing emotions that seem so natural. The Commercial I'm talking about is "Tag Team Helps With Dessert - GEICO Insurance" They make the commercial funny with different angles, a unique song, emotions, and even the little dances were entertaining to watch. The producers wanted to make something unique. Even though it could seem random it not tho. It makes it clear with a story and makes it unique with comedy.

Answer:

I watched a commercial for a shower gel that used literary devices. For example, the line “this product is a bouquet in a bottle” uses metaphor, and the line “you’ll smell as sweet as spring” uses alliteration and simile. The literary devices made the product sound good, but it didn’t persuade me to buy the shower gel.

The second commercial was for a brand of honey. The husband is making breakfast and says to his wife, “It makes that bland breakfast cereal as sweet as you, honey!” The advertisers use the word honey to refer to both the wife and the product. The commercial also uses personification with an animated bee that talks throughout the commercial. Finally the commercial uses onomatopoeia with the ending “Get the right start to a buzzzzzing day!” I liked the personification of the bee and the last line. While the commercial was entertaining, it didn’t make me want to go out and buy the honey.

The third commercial was a radio ad for a sale at a popular department store. The speaker deliberately speaks in a hurried tone to emphasize that the sale is for a limited time. The speaker builds a sense of urgency by suggesting buyers “grab the best deals” before everyone else can get there. The commercial also makes use of hyperbole with phrases such as “once in a lifetime discounts.” The hyperbole in this commercial got my attention. It made we wonder if I could go to the sale and get a good deal on a new pair of shoes.

In this excerpt from “The Red Shoes” by Hans Christian Anderson, who are the two minor characters?

There was once a pretty, delicate little girl, who was so poor that she had to go barefoot in summer and wear coarse wooden shoes in winter, which made her little instep quite red.

In the center of the village there lived an old shoemaker's wife. One day this good woman made, as well as she could, a little pair of shoes out of some strips of old red cloth. The shoes were clumsy enough, to be sure, but they fitted the little girl tolerably well, and anyway the woman's intention was kind. The little girl's name was Karen.

On the very day that Karen received the shoes, her mother was to be buried. They were not at all suitable for mourning, but she had no others, so she put them on her little bare feet and followed the poor plain coffin to its last resting place.

Just at that time a large, old-fashioned carriage happened to pass by, and the old lady who sat in it saw the little girl and pitied her.

"Give me the little girl," she said to the clergyman, "and I will take care of her."

Brutus: (In a kind and honest voice) Romans, countrymen and lovers, be silent, that you may hear. Believe me for mine honor. If any dear friend of Caesar's demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. (The citizens murmur with surprise.)

As Caesar loved me, I weep for him. As he was fortunate, rejoice at it. As he was valiant, I honor him. But as he was ambitious, I slew him. (The crowd nods approval.) There is tears for his love, joy for his fortune, honor for his valor, and death for his ambition. (A few cheer.) I have the same dagger for myself, when it shall please my country to need my death! Fill in the blank with the correct word or  phrase.

Do you know it will be cold tonight?

A. for

B. and

C. is

D. if

Answer:

The correct way to complete the sentence is by using letter D. if:

Do you know if it will be cold tonight?

Explanation:

The sentence we are analyzing here is an example of indirect question. When we form an indirect question from what was originally a yes/no question, we need the help of the word "if". The original question in this case was "Will it be cold tonight?" As we add "do you know", we also need to add "if":

- Do you know if it will be cold tonight?

Another example just to better illustrate this is:

- Is she a doctor?

- Do you know if she is a doctor?

Answer:

D. if

DO Not Go Gentle poem

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
