Harvard, Favorite fictional character
Of all the characters that I've "met" through books and movies, two stand out as people that I most want to emulate. They are Attacus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird and Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham from Field of Dreams. They appeal to me because they embody what I strive to be. They are influential people in small towns who have a direct positive effect on those around them. I, too, plan to live in a small town after graduating from college, and that positive effect is something I must give in order to be satisfied with my life.
Both Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham are strong supporting characters in wonderful stories. They symbolize good, honesty, and wisdom. When the story of my town is written I want to symbolize those things. The base has been formed for me to live a productive, helpful life. As an Eagle Scout I represent those things that Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham represent. In the child/adolescent world I am Mr. Finch and Dr. Graham, but soon I'll be entering the adult world, a world in which I'm not yet prepared to lead.
I'm quite sure that as teenagers Attacus Finch and Moonlight Graham often wondered what they could do to help others. They probably emulated someone who they had seen live a successful life. They saw someone like my grandfather, 40-year president of our hometown bank, enjoy a lifetime of leading, sharing, and giving. I have seen him spend his Christmas Eves taking gifts of food and joy to indigent families. Often when his bank could not justify a loan to someone in need, my grandfather made the loan from his own pocket. He is a real-life Moonlight Graham, a man who has shown me that characters like Dr. Graham and Mr. Finch do much much more than elicit tears and smiles from readers and movie watchers. Through him and others in my family I feel I have acquired the values and the burning desire to benefit others that will form the foundation for a great life. I also feel that that foundation is not enough. I do not yet have the sophistication, knowledge, and wisdom necessary to succeed as I want to in the adult world. I feel that Harvard, above all others, can guide me toward the life of greatness that will make me the Attacus Finch of my town.

Which event introduces the solution in this passage?
Tamica stood gasping at the window next to the gate, watching her plane taxi down the runway. It gained speed, its nose tilted skyward, and then it left the ground behind, tucking up its now-unneeded wheels as it soared toward the United States. This was not only Tamica's plane, it was also the night's last plane from London to the United States.
Tamica sat down right where she was to think. Her semester in the small English town of Sheffield was over, and she was supposed to be flying home right now. She'd moved out of the flat she'd shared with other students and all of her belongings were now airborne. She was faced with a long night in the airport or a night in the unfamiliar city of London.
"Mom, what am I going to do?" Tamica groaned on the phone.
"Tamica, I have a friend who lives near Heathrow Airport in London. I'll call her and try to have her come get you. Does that sound alright?"
"Yes, thank you!" Tamica exclaimed.
Outside the airport, Tamica sat down once again, still without luggage, but with a calmer mind. Home would have to wait until tomorrow.
Tamica spending a semester abroad in England
Tamica waiting outside for her ride
Tamica's phone call with her mom
Tamica missing her flight
Answer:
C). Tamica's phone call with her mom.
Explanation:
As per the question, the event leading to a solution in the passage was 'Tamica's phone call with her mother.' Before the call, she was extremely tensed after missing her plane to the United States which was also the last plane for that night. She didn't know what to do as she had already left the place where she lived with other students and the city was not known to her. She was left clueless about how to spend the long night at the Heathrow airport but after the call, she gets to way to get out of this problem as one of her mom's friend live near the airport. Thus, this event brings a solution to her problem and hence, option C is the correct answer.

Write an article to be published in a national newspaper on why every school
should have a library.
och you would give at you
Answer:
I’d begin by googling the topic. Read all the top hits to see what others are saying. Clip appropriate quotes and make a file of them, including links to each source.
Note how these articles are buillt, and think about the structure you’d like for yours. Build a simple outline to guide your work.
Decide your thesis after you’ve digested what others are saying. Perhaps your best thesis is that a school library provides a resource that does not exist in the community. Maybe its weather-related. Whatever you decide, use the saved quotes to support your thesis
Which of these statements is supported by the article?
A.
It is important to have a car to access Kansas City parks.
B.
Kansas City is too industrialized to have many parks.
C.
Many people live too far away to access Kansas City parks.
D.
Most people have access to one of Kansas City's parks.
THE PASSAGE:
Even in a city as large and industrialized as Kansas City, beautiful nature can be found and enjoyed. Parks and nature preserves are located all over the city. Sometimes, it can be hard to find them unless you know where to begin looking. A good place to start is the Parks Department Web site. On it, you will find the locations of these and other great parks.
For the nature lover, hiking trails are very important. Trails can be smooth sidewalks through manicured parks or rough dirt tracks through wilderness areas. Kansas City has both and everything in between. Whether you are a young, avid hiker or a senior citizen looking for a leisurely stroll, you will find something.
Shawnee Mission Park is one of Kansas City’s most popular parks. This 1,250 acre park is one of the most visited parks in the state. It has beautiful hiking trails for people of all ages and abilities. Native wildlife is everywhere! Also, Shawnee Mission Park has a sparkling lake and camp grounds. For the dog lovers, Shawnee Mission Park has one of the largest off-leash dog parks in the city!
A short drive outside of Kansas City will take you to Fleming Park, the largest park in the area. Fleming Park is a popular destination for bird watchers and is the home of the Burroughs Audubon Library. The park also contains two lakes, campgrounds, and hundreds of miles of trails. Don’t forget your bathing suit and your wildlife guide!
In the city, it is easy to forget that we are animals and that we live with nature. Get out to one of these great parks to remember those facts. If you do not have access to a car, check the Parks Department Web site and look for something in your area or just off of the public transportation routes. It is worth your time.
Answer:
D.
Explanation: By process of elimination, A. Is wrong because the article mentions that you can also take public transportation; therefore not requiring your own vehicle.
B. Is wrong because the article is listing many parks in and surrounding Kansas City
C is out because the parks are in the Kansas City area
Answer:
D. Most people have access to one of Kansas City's parks.
Explanation:
During the course of the passage, the writer mentions multiple parks, how to access them, and the importance of them and visiting them. It cannot be answer B, since the passage talks about having parks in Kansas City even though it is industrialized. The writer only mentions having a car once, and when they do, they explain what to do if you do not have a car. From that knowledge, answer A can be ruled out. The passage also highlights the point that there are enough parks in Kansas City that it should not be to difficult to go and visits them, therefore the answers can also not be answer C. That leaves answer D, which the passage supports through examples of parks to access and ways to access them.
