Jameela is reading a magazine article. Read the following excerpt from the article:

Five days a week, Henry Zimmerman used to ride the elevator to the sixth floor and spend all day sitting at his computer. On weekends, he felt too tired to do more than watch TV. Most of the time he was anxious, and he was frustrated that his clothes were tight. In addition, his doctor informed him that he had high blood pressure, which could lead to heart trouble.
At his doctor’s advice, Henry began exercising. At work, he took the stairs instead of the elevator. During his lunch break, he went for a run. On weekends, he played pickup basketball at the park. Slowly, he gained energy, his anxiety decreased, and his clothes fit him better. At his next doctor’s appointment, he found out his blood pressure had decreased to a healthy number.

Which statement describes the relationship between the two paragraphs in this excerpt?
A. The first paragraph describes the first step in Henry’s lifestyle change, and the second paragraph presents the next step.
B. The first paragraph describes the cause of Henry’s inactive lifestyle, and the second paragraph explains the effect of the inactive lifestyle.
C. The first paragraph describes the problem—Henry’s inactive lifestyle—and the second paragraph suggests how an active lifestyle might solve Henry’s problem.
D. The first paragraph describes how Henry felt during his inactive lifestyle, and the second paragraph contrasts that experience with the experience of his active lifestyle.

There are a lot of rule that exist in the community of The Giver. Do you think rules make life easier or harder? Are they necessary? Explain your answer.

Answers

Answer:

I think that they make life in the community harder. In real life, it depends. The kind of rules the community has, like limits to how many kids you can have, kids are divided into age groups, can't have your own privacy since you must share your feelings and dreams with your family whether you like it or not, etc. I feel that it limits the freedom of the people in the community. It's a strange world too. There are no colors, only one season exists, no birthdays, and you can get "released" if you do not perform or develop as you should. The rules were made to make the world utopian, but I think that limiting what people can and what people can't do in order to make a utopian society is unnecessary.

Once upon a time, three little pigs left home to make their way in the world.
The first pig quickly built a house from straw.

That night, a wolf knocked on the first pig’s door and asked to enter. “Nope! Go away,” said the first pig. “Well then,” replied the wolf, “I’ll huff and puff, and I will blow your house down!” The wolf did just that. The first pig ran away and went to live with his brother.

The next night, the wolf knocked on the second pig’s door. This pig had quickly built his house from twigs. “May I come in?” asked the wolf. “Nope! Go away,” said the first and second pigs. “Well then,” replied the wolf, “I’ll huff and puff, and I will blow your house down!” The wolf did just that. The first and second pigs ran away and went to live with their brother.

The following night, the wolf knocked on the third pig’s door. The third pig had carefully and slowly built his house from bricks. “May I come in?” asked the wolf. “Nope! Go away,” said the first, second, and third pigs in unison. “Well then,” replied the wolf, “I’ll huff and puff, and I will blow your house down!” The wolf huffed and puffed, took a breath, and then huffed and puffed again. Nothing. The bricks held, and the three little pigs were left in peace to enjoy their dinner.

What three elements of this story repeat?

Each pig builds a house.
Each pig pays a visit to his mother.
The wolf says “I’ll huff and puff, and I will blow your house down.”
The wolf says “May I have some more?”
The pigs say “Nope! Go away.”

#1 In this passage, which element does Mandela add to his description of the courage he needed to succeed in his mission?
In life, every man has twin obligations—obligations to his family, to his parents, to his wife and children; and he has an obligation to his people, his community, his country. In a civil and humane society, each man is able to fulfill those obligations according to his own inclinations and abilities. But in a country like South Africa, it was almost impossible for a man of my birth and color to fulfill both of those obligations. In South Africa, a man of color who attempted to live as a human being was punished and isolated. In South Africa, a man who tried to fulfill his duty to his people was inevitably ripped from his family and home and was forced to live a life apart, a twilight existence of secrecy and rebellion. I did not in the beginning choose to place my people above my family, but in attempting to serve my people, I found that I was prevented from serving my obligations as a son, a brother, a father, and a husband.

I fell and died it hurt really really bad
I don’t know if you need this still, but here is a story of mine you can use lol

When I was five years old, my family and I moved into a new house. My parents needed to go bring more boxes from our old house, so while they did that my grandma watched me and my siblings at the new house for a bit. While we were there my older cousins came over to check out the house, but they were distracted so I went to go wander around the house. I ended up finding this pillar at the entrance of that house and tried sliding on it, but I ended up getting my knee stuck at the bottom of the pillar. There was a pillar and a wall and my knee was stuck between them and it hurt so bad. So I started yelling and crying for help. My grandma heard and it ran over to help but she couldn’t get me out so my older cousins came over and tried getting me out. I was crying so much and they didn’t know what to do. They couldn’t get me out, they tried lifting my leg up, they tried pulling it out, but everything hurt so much that it didn’t work. My older sibling then got old butter that was left in the fridge from the people who previously lived in the house. It smelt so bad and we try putting the butter on my leg to slip it out, but even that didn’t work. At that time my leg started to swell. We then called my parents and it worried my dad so much, but they were already far so my parents couldn’t do anything. I was so scared I thought my leg was going to fall off. My older cousin then kicked a hole in the wall to try to get my leg out but there was a piece of wood in the wall that was squishing my leg that they couldn’t move. My aunt then came to check out the house, but quickly became worried because all she heard was crying from me. My other cousin then ended up calling 911 and the firefighters and paramedics came. It was so chaotic and we had just got the keys to our new house two hours before. After a few minutes the firefighters and paramedics arrived and when they all came in I was so embarrassed. After the firefighters tried a few things they eventually got my knee out and there was sheet rock and old butter all over my leg. Everyone was cheering and clapping because they were relieved. I was embarrassed though because there was so much people that I had got worried and probably 20 people in the living room were all staring at me. They ended up giving me A Christmas present and a fire fighter hat which made me less embarrassed. Right after that my parents had arrived and came up to me and asked me what happened they both had these worried faces when they walked in, but I was already fine. Now when family brings it up I get super embarrassed about it because I did something not so smart.
