Answer:
Explanation:
Twenty years ago this week, at the age of six months, Dolly the cloned sheep was unveiled to the world amid much controversy. Newspapers proclaimed the scientific community was "in an uproar"; others said the creation was "anticipated and dreaded" and the announcement prompted inevitable claims of human cloning being close to reality.
However, more than two decades since the sheep's "birth", full human clones are non-existent and cloning technology has remained, mostly, contained to scientific laboratories.
"When Dolly was announced, the media picked up on the fact we now have a clone and brought up science fiction-type scenarios, but the biology was really stunning," Lawrence Brody, from the National Human Genome Research Institute told WIRED. "The folks in Scotland had essentially figured out a way to reprogram the genome so it can make a whole organism, and renewed a very intense investigation into this area."
So where is the technology now, and, more importantly, where does it goes next?

What is cloning?
"The term cloning describes a number of different processes that can be used to produce genetically identical copies of a biological entity," explains the National Human Genome research group's website. At its simplest, cloning works by taking a genetic part of an organism and recreating it in another place.
Dolly was cloned using a process known as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) which takes a somatic cell, such as a skin cell, and transfers its DNA to an egg cell with its nucleus removed. In the process, the DNA can be transferred by injection or through a process using electric currents.
Although revolutionary at the time, this method has since been largely superseded by the introduction of Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) , announced more than a decade ago. iPSCs are skin or blood cells that have been reprogrammed back into an embryonic-like pluripotent state, letting researchers develop them into any type of cell needed. For example, iPSCs can be used to treat diabetes, or iPSC blood cells can be used to create new blood free of cancer cells for a leukemia patient.
In 2006, Shinya Yamanaka, who is now a Nobel Prize winner, showed how mature cells in mice could be reprogrammed to become immature stem cells. A year later, research led by Drs. Kathrin Plath, William Lowry, Amander Clark, and April Pyle were among the first to create human iPSC.
"iPSCs have the potential to become multipurpose research and clinical tools to understand and model diseases, develop and screen candidate drugs, and deliver cell-replacement therapy to support regenerative medicine," researcher Charles Goldthwaite wrote about the potential of the method. iPSC stem cells can additionally be cre

Explanation:
Carlos learns that all living things have cells with the same system of genetic material. Scientists have concluded that this shows that all living things had a common ancestor.
Carlos finds this difficult to understand as he looks at pictures of a dog and snake. He cannot see many similarities between them, but what shows evidence of their common evolutionary past?
A. DNA
B. gene transfer
C. natural selection
D. endosymbiosis
Answer:
A. ADN
Explanation:

Writing an argumentative essay is similar to arguing a case in court. Like a trial lawyer, your job is to convince the jury – the reader, in your case – that they should agree with your point of view. A skillful argument writer knows that presenting a clear case, with strong evidence and a well-phrased conclusion is essential for getting it right. In this lesson, you will write a 5-paragraph essay arguing your position on an issue.

Answer:
I heard a rustling noise in the shrubs outside of my window... all of a sudden, the curtains flipped open, and I got a weird feeling down my spine, like someone was watching me... I hopped out of bed, and put my shoes on, trying to be as quiet as possible, as I didn't want to wake my parents, I tip-toed down the stairs, and creaked open the front door. Once I got outside I felt a weird presence like there was someone or something with me. That's when I felt gravitated over to the shrubs.... once I got over to the shrubs near my window, I saw something! I screamed as loud as I could, it looked like some sort of a ghost, but then again I don't believe in ghosts. I hurried away back to the porch to collect myself, and went inside, once I got back upstairs, and tucked in, I still felt odd and unsettled. Once I started falling asleep I heard someone whispering my name so I said "Dad, Mom?" and then I felt a hand over my mouth, so once again I screamed, I tried to open my eyes but they felt so heavy, I stopped resisting. Once I opened my eyes I was in an odd place, with lots of greenery... then I remembered, the shrub! maybe the odd person/spirit took me into the shrub with them! It had to be that. Then I heard a dull knocking noise, and an alarm clock so I pried my eyes open with all my strength, and I was back in my bed with my mom yelling at my to wake up... what a dream, or was it...?

Read the excerpt from The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone by James Cross Giblin.
The middle hieroglyph was unknown to him, but he guessed that the two at the left symbolized the sun.
From his studies of Coptic, Champollion knew that the Egyptian word for "sun" was pronounced rah. He wrote down the first two letters of that sound, RA. Next he put a question mark for the unknown middle hieroglyph. Then, at the end, he wrote SS, the sound of the last two hieroglyphs.
He studied the combination: RA ? SS. Suddenly he remembered a famous pharaoh whose name appeared in ancient Greek chronicles and also in the Biblical Book of Exodus: Rameses, or Ramesses. Could this be a hieroglyphic representation of Ramesses' name?

History is by far my favorite subject in school. It is very difficult to learn all the names and dates. The challenge is well worth it for several reasons. First, it's great to learn about inspirational figures from the past. Today we learned about Abraham Lincoln, who guided America through the Civil War. Second, I get to see how the past has influenced our lives today. History helps us all learn to not make the same mistakes that were made in the past. These are just three of the reasons I can't wait for history class.

Look at the following commentary on "Cupid and Psyche" from Bulfinch's Mythology. The fable of Cupid and Psyche is usually considered allegorical. The Greek name for a butterfly is Psyche, and the same word means the soul. There is no illustration of the immortality of the soul so striking and beautiful as the butterfly, bursting on brilliant wings from the tomb in which it has lain, after a dull, groveling caterpillar existence, to flutter in the blaze of day and feed on the most fragrant and delicate productions of the spring. Psyche, then, is the human soul, which is purified by sufferings and misfortunes, and is thus prepared for the enjoyment of true and pure happiness. In your journal, reflect on Bulfinch's analysis of the story's theme. Do you agree or disagree with his analysis? Why or why not? What new questions does this analysis of "Cupid and Psyche" bring to mind? Can you answer them? If not, does it matter? Explain.
Answer:
Well slightly you could say that it being called "allegorical" would go with the theme, the theme may be jealousy which could be the reason Venus gave all the nearly impossible (and inevitable) tasks to do, although Venus was possibly jealous because of Cupid liking Psyche and Psyche being mortal.
The statement fits with the theme of the story, because it wasn't made clear or stated that Venus was jealous, it used her actions to foreshadow (is that the right word for it?) the theme. Similar to how Psyche means soul and butterfly and how her soul is made immortal, like a transition for a caterpillar to a butterfly.
(for the sake of you not having it given back, edit it to look like you wrote it pls. this was my actual answer for this question when i got it)
Well, in a way, you could say that the fact that it is called "allegorical" fits with the theme; the theme might be jealousy, which might explain why Venus gave everyone the nearly impossible tasks to complete. Venus may have been jealous because Cupid liked Psyche and Psyche was mortal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Venus was.
What do you know about Bulfinch's ?Thomas Bulfinch, an American banker and Latinist, gathered a number of myth and legend tales that he revised for a general readership and had published as Bulfinch's Mythology after his demise in 1867. By the work, English-speaking readers were successfully introduced to Greek mythology.
It was "one of the most popular books ever published in the United States and the standard work on classical mythology for nearly a century," according to Carl J. Richard and John Talbot of Brigham Young University, up until the release of classicist Edith Hamilton's 1942 book Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes.

Dressed in a suit and tie, the purist raised his hand every time to answer each question the teacher asked.
Any time the children would try to trick their mom into letting them go to bed late, the purist of the family would always point out that their bedtime was at 9:30.
