The paramecium was the only unicellular organism that Stella viewed through her microscope. All the other organisms were multicellular. How was the unicellular specimen different from the multicellular organisms?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The difference between a unicellular specimen and other multicellular organisms will be the NUMBER OF CELLS. See detailed explanation below.

Explanation:

Cells are the simplest and basic unit of life. Living organisms has been classified as unicellular or multicellular depending on the number of the cells that make them up. A unicellular organism is that which possess only one cell to carry out all its life functions. According to the question, the Paramecium is an example of unicellular organism.

On the other hand, a multicellular organism is made up of many cells that specializes to perform the different life functions of the organism. This means that a specific kind of cell carries out a specific life function, this is called Cell differentiation. Examples of multicellular organisms include plants, all eukaryotic fungi etc.

Therefore, Stella's unicellular specimen, which is the Paramecium, will be different from other multicellular organisms in the number of cells possessed by each of them. The unicellular specimen will possess just a single cell while the multicellular organisms will possess more than one cell as viewed by the microscope.

What is Cell Necrosis?

Cell Necrosis is the death of the cells which are present in the body tissues. While the dead body tissue can be removed, it cannot be brought back to the good health.

The necrotic tissue appears as white and friable cells, like the clumped cheese. Dead cells in the body disintegrate however are not completely digested by lysosomes, thus leaving granular particles. Microscopic examination of the dead cells show amorphous granular debris that is enclosed within a distinctive inflammatory border.

Cell Necrosis can occur due to different causes such as injury, infections or diseases. Lack of blood flow to body tissues and extreme environmental conditions.

Therefore, the correct option is D.

What do you think of genetic engineering? Are GMO's good or bad?

With genetically engineering humans, should we be tampering with the human genome? Do you think humans can stick to a limit (only curing diseases) or do you think humans would begin engineering people?

Answers

I wrote a paper about this not too long ago! I don’t know a lot about GMO’s, but I can answer your questions about genetic engineering in humans.

I feel that genetic engineering has a lot of promise, especially with eradicating genetic diseases, but it is still very new and research needs to be done with extreme caution. If gene editing technology was allowed to be used in more than just extreme circumstances, there would be a lot of room for misuse, things we can only imagine now, like changing someone’s physical features (eye color, skin color, etc). This is just one issue that could lead to less diversity and discrimination of a whole new kind, and just kind of spiral from there. There have been people who have died during experimental genetic engineering, I read a study where it was used to cure a handful of children of a genetic disorder, but then the tampering led to about half of them being diagnosed with a type of cancer that came directly from the gene editing, and at least one passed away. All this to say, genetic engineering can be a good thing, but there do need to be limits and further research should tread very lightly.

What additional evidence

supports Darwin's theory?

A. Cell theory
B. DNA and molecular evidence
C. Process of photosynthesis
D. Method of protein synthesis

Answers

Answer: The answer is A cell theory.

Explanation: For our cells to be as developed and complex as they are today a huge evolutional process was necessary. This process is explained in the cell theory

DNA and molecular evidences are the additional evidences to support Darwin's theory. The correct option is B.

What is Darwin's theory?

According to Darwin's theory, all species of organisms emerge and develop through natural selection of slight, inherited variations that significantly raise the individual's capacity to compete, stay alive, and reproduce.

It is backed up by research from a wide range of scientific disciplines, as well as genetics, which shows that DNA from different species is similar.

Fossils, embryological studies, anatomical and morphological characteristics, and molecular biology are examples of evidence that support the theory of evolution by comparing DNA sequences.

Thus, the correct option is B.

S. cerevisiae feeds on sugars for energy, in the process producing carbon dioxide and alcohol (this is fermentation in a nutshell). The carbon dioxide bubbles get trapped in the dough, creating the lift that makes the dough rise. The alcohol, meanwhile, evaporates when baking, transforming into gas that also contributes to the rise of the bread. The alcohol, along with acids produced during the fermentation process, impart that wonderful flavor and aroma associated with yeast-leavened breads.

If the number of photosynthetic organisms on the earth decreased drastically, which would happen as a result? Less water would be available on the earth’s surface. Less solar energy would reach the earth’s atmosphere. More oxygen gas would be found in the atmosphere. More carbon dioxide gas would be found in the atmosphere.

Answers

Answer:

More carbon dioxide gas would be found in the atmosphere.

Explanation:

Photosynthetic organisms convert carbon dioxide in air to oxygen through photosynthesis, while other non-photosynthetic organisms only consume oxygen and release carbon dioxide through respiration, they do not undergo photosynthesis.

When the number of photosynthetic organisms on the earth decreased drastically, the carbon dioxide released from other non-photosynthetic organisms cannot be converted to oxygen, so carbon dioxide in air accumulates.

What is the benefit of using a shortcut in a reaction between two chemicals? A shortcut would ensure a safer reaction. A shortcut may provide a faster reaction. A reaction with a shortcut would yield more chemical output. A reaction with a shortcut would require less chemical input.

Answers

Answer:

A shortcut may provide a faster reaction

Explanation:

Chemical reactions occur in a particular manner and speed if allowed to occur normally. However, shortcuts can be used for the essence of making the reaction proceed much faster than it naturally would. Catalysts are the substances used to provide these shortcuts.

A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate at which a chemical reaction occurs without being chemically used up in the reaction. A catalyst speedens up the chemical reaction by decreasing the activation energy. The activation energy is that energy needed for a chemical reaction to kick start. The higher the activation energy, the slower the reaction proceeds.

A catalyst, thus, creates a shortcut by lowering the activation energy of the chemical reaction, allowing it to proceed faster than when a catalyst is not used.
