Write whether it is a defining or non-defining relative clause: 1. This is the house that Jack built. 2. The Taj Mahal, which is one of the seven wonders of the world is in Agra.

Answers

Answer:

The two phrases shown above are defining relative clauses.

Explanation:

Distinguishing a defining relative clause from a non-defining relative clause is very simple, you just need to pay close attention to the message that the drase is passing. That's because a defining relative clause is a phrase that directly defines something or someone, like the phrases shown in the question above. On the other hand, a non-defining relative clause is a phrase that does not define people directly, but only emits information about them.

"...A Harvard professor conducted a 12-year study on how the public viewed solar energy. ."

"And the plans to use solar electricity in California's public buildings are full of pitfalls and problems. "

"And the plans to use solar electricity in California's public buildings are full of pitfalls and problems is the statement is an opinion expressed in "Not So Fast, California. Hence, option A is correct.

What is meant by Not So Fast, California?

New single-family residences and multi-family buildings up to three stories high in California are required to have solar panels as of 2018. The California solar mandate, which is a requirement under the state's building rules, went into effect on January 1, 2020.

7 hours of screen time every day is too much.

You should definitely monitor your screen time. Keep yourself in check.

They are very addictive. Everything your phone beeps, you pick it up to see what new happened.

The study will find the addictiveness of our phones, since nowadays no one can live without them, including me.

Explanation:

1. I think over 4 hours is way too much, although between all of the modern-day technological needs, I don't know a person who has a screen-time average of under 6 hours.

2. Honestly I don't think tracking your screen time will reduce it at all because I do it, and so do a lot of people I know, and we all become aware of how often we use our technology, but can't change it; especially with online school and assignments now, plus the need to call and text friends since we can't see them in person, and just to relax in general. So no, I think it makes people more mindful of their screentime but will not reduce it.

3. I definitely think our phones are addictive because they become a part of our everyday lives. Think about it - we know we have hours upon hours of screentime between school, social media, and games, but we don't stop. Why don't we stop? Because we can't - we're addicted to constantly being updated on every single thing going on in the world and in our friends' and families' lives, along with that sense of security in knowing we can contact anyone we want at any time.

4. The study isn't going to change much in ten years - everyone will still have hours of screen-time and honestly, with the amount of things becoming digital, the results will probably be worse than they are right now.

Hey guys looking for feedback and any mistakes on a small writing prompt that someone wrote for me. August 1st, 1876. One century after the United States signed the Declaration of Independence, Colorado was admitted into Union as the 38th state. What many people didn’t realize until many years later, was the beauty of this magnificent state. It is filled with mountains, rivers, lakes, and so much more. The days began with a beautiful sunrise and ended with an equally beautiful sunset. The winters were full of snow and the summers full with life. This is why I chose to make this beautiful state my home, at the age of thirty three. My family and I moved to a small town called Aspen. For the first few years it was amazing. In the winter my family and I would go snowboarding, and in the summer we would take long walks in the beautiful mountains. But it wasn’t like this forever. In February of 1995, my wife was struck with cancer. The doctors said she was not going to make it and to prepare for her death. With great sorrow, I made preparations. Since I could no longer afford our house, I got ready to sell it. My wife got her will in order and she began to make peace with herself as she fought her inevitable fate. Family was always coming over to bring us food and comfort. My wife died in August of 1995. With heavy hearts, we sold the house and made way for Vail to start a new life. This town was similar to Aspen, but was filled with new people and new beginnings. I decided to write a book, wanting a new hobby to take my mind off my wife. I had always been a decent writer, but my wife dying brought new light to writing. I spent hours tucked in my office working on my book. In one of the rare moments that I was out, I met someone. We met at a coffee shop, when she came up to me and introduced herself. She said her name was Isabel and asked me about my life. We talked for hours that day about my life and hers. We soon began to meet every Saturday at this small coffee shop. She would listen to my life story and then I would listen to hers. Every weekday I would work on my book, excited to see her on Saturday. Soon we started dating. It was then that I truly started to heal. A year later we decided to get married. Our marriage was one of the happiest days of my life and at that moment I knew that my life was filled with many more pleasant days. I completed my book just months after. The book is called Passing of The Dead. In this book I talk of all the hardships in my life. I talk of the sorrow my dead wife brought me. Of the gaping hole she left in me with her death. But then I talk about healing. How Isabel showed me to make the hole smaller. How she showed me to fill the sorrowful hole of her death with the memories of our past. In the last chapter of the book I move on to one final, important lesson that I learned. This last chapter is all about finding optimism and being hopeful for a better future. I was lucky when I decided to move to Vail. I was lucky when Isabel came up to me that day. Because of my hope and optimism, I let Isabel in my life. And my life has once again returned into a state of happiness, a state that I thought I would never see again. So I come here today, asking all of you one favor. Next time you feel that you are in pain, do not dwell in your sorrows. Do not only think of the painand dwell in it. Instead, think of all the happy memories before the pain. Be hopeful and optimistic of a better future. Because one day, you will look back on your moments of sorrow and be thankful. Thankful that you experienced everything. Because those experiences are the hands that mold you. And if you dwell in the pain, it will mold you into a lesser person than if you had not done so and instead been optimistic and hopeful.

Explanation:

Study the editorial cartoon Mars Probe by Mike Keefe. On another planet, 3 aliens are playing baseball, and one holds a baseball bat at the ready position. A space vehicle is flying above them with "Mars Probe" written on it. One alien says "Get ready! Here comes another one!" How does the alien with the baseball bat contribute to the effectiveness of the political cartoon? It suggests that aliens are like people because they play baseball, a human sport. It uses humor to show that unknown factors keep damaging the probes humans send. It shows how to cope with the surface of Mars, which is rocky and full of craters. It exaggerates the size of the bat in relation to the Mars probe in the cartoon.

Answers

Answer:

The alien with the baseball bat contributes to the effectiveness of the cartoon because:

B. It uses humor to show that unknown factors keep damaging the probes humans send.

Explanation:

Keefe finds a funny and, of course, improbable explanation as to why probes sent from Earth are constantly being damaged. In his cartoon, aliens play baseball. If that weren't funny enough, they are doing it with the purpose of breaking the probes. In a way, Keefe is using something that many people have most likely wondered: What if aliens do exist, but they do things that keep us from finding out about them?

Answer:

B

It uses humor to show that unknown factors keep damaging the probes humans send.

Four major candidates ran in the 1824 election, all under the "Democratic-Republican" name. One of the candidates, Andrew Jackson, was already famous. In the 1780s, he earned the right to practice law and served in various offices of the state government, including senator. He earned the nickname "Old Hickory" for his toughness as a general during the War of 1812 and First Seminole War. Jackson supported slavery and "Indian removal." This earned him support from voters in southern and frontier states. The other three candidates were John Quincy Adams of Massachusetts, Henry Clay of Kentucky, and William Crawford of Georgia. U.S. presidents are elected through the Electoral College. The Founding Fathers worried that Americans were to spread out to learn enough about the candidates. Under the Electoral College, Americans cast their ballot for the popular vote, which chooses the electors for each state. The number of electoral votes each state equals the number of representatives and senators combined. The candidates must win an absolute majority of electoral votes to win the election. In 1824, Andrew Jackson won the popular vote, but he did not win it in each state. Jackson and Adams both won many electoral votes. Jackson won the most with 99. However, a candidate needs an absolute majority of electoral votes to win. In 1824, Jackson needed 131 to win. When there is not majority winner, the election goes to the House of Representatives. This has only happened twice in U.S. history. Even though he won the popular vote and many electoral votes, Andrew Jackson lost the presidency in 1824. John Quincy Adams was the Secretary of State currently. Henry Clay was the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Henry Clay, receiving the least, was left out. However, as a leader in the House of Representatives, he had influence over the other members. Clay openly hated Jackson and there were rumors that Clay made a deal with Adams in exchange for his support. The House election declared John Quincy Adams president. Soon, he chose Henry Clay to fill the seat he left vacant, Secretary of State. Jackson was shocked and enraged. Although there was no inquiry of possible wrongdoing, Jackson accused Adams and Clay of making a "corrupt bargain." John Quincy Adams was a disappointment as president. Many of his goals created divisions like federal funds for internal improvement. Some states thought that taking federal funds would force them to follow certain rules. They felt this reduced their rights as independent states. Jackson took advantage of issues like this one to gather more support. More Jackson supporters found their way to seats in Congress. He was as a man of the people and said Adams could never understand the common man's concerns. John Quincy Adams ran against Andrew Jackson in the 1828 election. Personal attacks grew even more vicious, but Andrew Jackson appealed to many. He believed government was for the common man. He believed in strict reading of the law and limited internal improvements. He also believed in states' rights. Andrew Jackson easily won the 1828 election, winning both the popular vote and most electoral votes. Historians note the sectional nature of the voting. Support for Jackson was concentrated in South while Adams' support was mostly in the North. Jackson was so popular because he brought changes to the government. He also wanted to make sure the government was responsible for its actions. Jackson pushed settlement into the frontier. He supported the Indian Removal act. He also defended the spread of slavery. Though his support was heavier in the South, he was determined to keep a unified nation. The rise and presidency of Old Hickory is memorable to Americans today.
