In the last Section, you learned a great deal about demand and supply. You observed how they operate, why they operate as they do, and what forces beyond price influence the two. However, economics is not a discipline that is solely for use within a book. In this Lesson you will research real-life examples to illustrate what you have learned.
Just as exercise keeps you in good physical condition, improving yourself at school or work will enhance your performance. Seek ways to hone existing skills, learn new skills, and increase your knowledge. The discipline you develop in the process will help you meet new challenges.
Become an expert at your job. Obtain certification if possible.
Attend training that will increase your knowledge of the industry. The more you understand your role in relationship to the whole process, the more effective you can become.

Using the internet or whatever source you have readily available to you, you are to search for examples of increase and decrease in demand within your state, within the country, and internationally. You are to do the same with supply—state, country, and international. This can be accomplished in several ways. One way is to search for issues of demand and supply in each area. However, another way could include searching for the various factors that affect demand and supply. For example, if you see that violence is erupting in Iran or Greece, think about each country’s major exports. There is a chance that such violent actions could impact the supply of that export for the rest of the world.

9. What kinds of cases go before the Supreme Court? Why is the Court's decision whether to hear a case important? (11.1.2)
Answer:
The Supreme Court is a federal court and hears cases based on constitutional and federal laws. They hear cases prosecuted by the United States as well as cases prosecuted against the United States ( a state, citizen, or business can sue the United States) or constitutional and federal law issues.
The courts decision to hear a case is important because they only hear 150 to 200 appellate cases per year and your case is chosen on the merits, the constitution, and the federal laws in which your suit is prosecuted.
Explanation:
The Constitution states that the Supreme Court has both original and appellate jurisdiction. Original jurisdiction means that the Supreme Court is the first, and only, Court to hear a case. The Constitution limits original jurisdiction cases to those involving disputes between the states or disputes arising among ambassadors and other high-ranking ministers. Appellate jurisdiction means that the Court has the authority to review the decisions of lower courts. Most of the cases the Supreme Court hears are appeals from lower courts.
A party seeking to appeal to the Supreme Court from a lower court decision must file a writ of certiorari. ... This is referred to as "granting certiorari," often abbreviated as "cert." If four Justices do not agree to review the case, the Court will not hear the case. This is defined as denying certiorari. They only hear about 150 to 200 cases per year and it grants certiorari (or “cert”) when it agrees to decide a case. (Grants of cert are quite rare.)

why was the 1948 presidential election considered on of the biggest political upsets in US history?
Answer:
⌦ ❝ The United States presidential election of 1948 is considered by most historians as the greatest election upset in American history. Virtually every prediction (with or without public opinion polls) indicated that incumbent President Harry S. Truman would be defeated by Republican Thomas E. Dewey. Truman won, overcoming a three-way split in his own party. Truman's surprise victory was the fifth consecutive win for the Democratic Party in a presidential election. As a result of the 1948 congressional election, the Democrats would regain control of both houses of Congress. Thus, Truman's election confirmed the Democratic Party's status as the nation's majority party, a status they would retain until 1952. ❞

Describe the concept of antiracism?
Racism is perpetuated through everyday acts of police violence, policies, and systems. It is perpetuated through everyday acts of white superiority, like Amy Cooper in Central Park, and microaggressions
And it is also perpetuated through everyday acts in nonprofit and philanthropic organizations that aim to do good, without looking inward to ourselves and shifting how we address the root causes for the problems we care so much about.
-(my opinion)-
White people think that black people are horrible, scary and that they have no culture and that they are contempt but one thing I am sure of is that black people are innocent and maybe more special than us white people because they work and strive for a white person to tell him that he is worth nothing, that he is not worth it, but I am sure that that black person is worth more special than that white person.

Imagine that you are a young man living in the South or the North in April 1861, when the Civil War began. Write a statement that expresses why you are willing to die for what you believe is right. Refer to the arguments made by Southerners like Robert E. Grant and Robert W. Banks or Northerners like Ulysses S. Grant and Sullivan Ballou. Select from the following forms of writing: a personal letter to a family member, a letter to the editor of a wartime newspaper, or a report to your commanding officer. Your completed piece must be at least three paragraphs long and free of errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
ANSWER
Dear George my closest brother,
you may not feel the same but as a young man living in the north, in April of 1861 i would be willing to die for what i believe because, just like Ulysses S. Grant, having the courage to help free slaves and give black men the right to vote, i want to have the courage to help my country, live to be a free state, and if that means fighting and more likely dying for everyone i am willing to do that. i would rather have a peaceful talk or argument instead of a war but some things dont go as planned. so my brother if i die in this war, i wish the best for you and hope you will make the right choices.

why didn't more slave owners free enslaved african americans after the revolution
Answer:
Because they still needed people to tend to the crop industry, and everyone else had gone to war or was coming back.
They really had no reason to free them.
Throw aside the moral compass for a minute and go back in time. If you had somebody working for you, and did all the stuff you needed them to do, and you didn't have to pay them, wouldn't you keep them around? There was no punishment for keeping them, and they got a bunch of work done without any additional cost.

List and explain the several concerns Lincoln had to wrestle with in the decision to move forward with the Emancipation Proclamation.
Answer:
On September 22, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln issues a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, which sets a date for the freedom of more than 3 million enslaved in the United States and recasts the Civil War as a fight against slavery.
When the Civil War broke out in 1861, shortly after Lincoln’s inauguration as America’s 16th president, he maintained that the war was about restoring the Union and not about slavery. He avoided issuing an anti-slavery proclamation immediately, despite the urgings of abolitionists and radical Republicans, as well as his personal belief that slavery was morally repugnant. Instead, Lincoln chose to move cautiously until he could gain wide support from the public for such a measure.
In July 1862, Lincoln informed his cabinet that he would issue an emancipation proclamation but that it would exempt the so-called border states, which had slaveholders but remained loyal to the Union. His cabinet persuaded him not to make the announcement until after a Union victory. Lincoln’s opportunity came following the Union win at the Battle of Antietam in September 1862. On September 22, the president announced that enslaved people in areas still in rebellion within 100 days would be free.
On January 1, 1863, Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation, which declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebel states “are, and henceforward shall be free.” The proclamation also called for the recruitment and establishment of Black military units among the Union forces. An estimated 180,000 African Americans went on to serve in the army, while another 18,000 served in the navy.
After the Emancipation Proclamation, backing the Confederacy was seen as favoring slavery. It became impossible for anti-slavery nations such as Great Britain and France, who had been friendly to the Confederacy, to get involved on behalf of the South. The proclamation also unified and strengthened Lincoln’s party, the Republicans, helping them stay in power for the next two decades.
The proclamation was a presidential order and not a law passed by Congress, so Lincoln then pushed for an antislavery amendment to the U.S. Constitution to ensure its permanence. With the passage of the 13th Amendment in 1865, slavery was eliminated throughout America (although blacks would face another century of struggle before they truly began to gain equal rights).
Lincoln’s handwritten draft of the final Emancipation Proclamation was destroyed in the Chicago Fire of 1871. Today, the original official version of the document is housed in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

This imbalance is caused by inequalities in income and the accumulation of assets through generations.
The current racial wealth disparity is the result of several decades of racial inequality that imposed hurdles to wealth creation, either explicitly during slavery or by uneven treatment following freedom.
Inequality of wealth is not a negative thing. Wealth disparity, in fact, is a healthy and necessary component of a thriving economy. An economy with no wealth disparity will inevitably stagnate and perish, leaving widespread poverty in its wake.
