Why were some members of the suffrage movement opposed to the 14th Amendment that prohibited racial discrimination in voting?

A. They thought that the amendment made it too easy for uneducated African Americans to vote.

B. They felt that Southern opposition to the amendment would make life more difficult for women.

C. They thought a ban on discrimination against women should be included in the amendment.

D. They believe that the amendment was too poorly written to hold up in court against law suits.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

C. They thought a ban on discrimination against women should be included in the amendment.

Explanation:

The 14th Amendment granted American citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the USA, including ex-slaves. This allowed ex-slaves to be considered citizens and to have the right to vote. This infuriated the women involved in the suffragette movement, as women were not considered in this amendment and therefore were not considerate citizens, neither white nor black, which prevented them from voting and made them not only submissive to white men but also to blacks.

Answer 2

Answer: The correct answer is "They thought a ban on discrimination against women should be included in the amendment."

Which two words enhance the setting in this poem? War by Ellen Glasgow Ripples of ribbons borne on high, Bloodstains upon a brazen sky; From cannon belching on the plain, Fire that by fire is fought again. A flash where steel by steel is met; A fume of smoke and blood and sweat. Sharp from the smeared and trodden gorse The death-cry of a wounded horse. Dust of a plain ground into red By armies of majestic dead. Gaunt shadows on the changeless sky, A flock of vultures swarming nigh. Mid ashes where a hearth has stood, Children that cry aloud for food. Where green the peaceful highways run, A woman ravished in the sun. And far across the reeking sod A Nation sounding thanks to God.

My Hero Project

Heroes are everywhere around us. A lot of kids look up to heroes because they save lives, they are wonderful role models, and they are great examples of good people. Some of the main heroes we see today are police officers, firefighters, doctors, and many more. I have made up my own hero. His name is Reyota and he gets his powers from the greek gods. He is very powerful and he can harness his powers from any humans, or objects. Reyota goes on a magical journey to defeat his evil spirits. He uses his powers to guide him through the way. His mother is being held captive and he is trying to save her. This makes him a hero because he goes on a journey to help someone in need that he truly cares about.

One day a hero was born, Reyota. He was always making friends and cherished his mom so much. He was playing with his friend, Michael and they were playing in the backyard and Reyota’s mom was bringing them lemonade since it was really hot outside. “Kids I have some lemonade for you guys!”, Reyota’s Mom exclaimed. The kids ran from the treehouse to get their lemonade, ‘thanks Mom!” Reyota exclaimed. The children had loved the taste of the lemonade. ‘Wow, your Mom makes fantastic lemonade”, Michaeal said. “Thanks! I’ll tell her later.”, Reyota replied. They finished up the lemonade before they were about to head back to the treehouse. Then suddenly a black hole appeared out of thin air. Reyota’s Mom had come outside to check on the children but she was pulled into the black hole by this transparent thing that had a weird, domestic face. She had been gone for over a week. Reyota kept thinking of ways to save her but nothing worked. He went outside to get his mail but then a huge cloud struck over him. “BOOM!”, The thunder roared. Reyota was sunken into the clouds. He saw a giant person standing there, watching him. He also saw a big city and the air smelled wonderful.

“Hello Reyota, I’m Zeus, God of Thunder. I noticed that your mom was captured.”, Zeus said. “Well yes, but what do you want with me?”, Reyota asked. “Your special and your mom was captured by your evil spirits.”, Zues said. “I'm special? What do you mean by that?”, Reyota asked. “What I mean by that is, is that you were born with a special power. Didn’t your mom tell you?, Zeus asked. “No but that’s really cool! But what are my powers exactly?”, Reyota begged. “Your powers are out of this world. You can fly and harness anyone’s powers around you.”, Zeus explained. So Zeus trained Reyota how to fight and how to use his powers so he could save his Mom.

Reyota had grown to be older and he became best friends with Zeus. Reyota’s mom had been stuck in the underworld by Reyota’s evil spirits. He went on a quest to the underworld to rescue his mom. He was walking in a strange forest when he came across this hairy beast. “Who are you and what are you doing here!”, The beast demanded. “I’m looking for my mother”, Reyota said. “Oh…” The beast said. “She was captured by my evil spirits.” Reyota mentioned. The beast showed Reyota a magic mirror that reveals the future. Reyota saw his mom being tortured. He was astonished but he thanked the beast for showing him what they were doing to his mother. He left the forest and he was ready to find his mother.
Reyota found himself being in an ice kingdom. There was a huge ice castle. He thought to himself, how will I pass through this monster, I can do this. I just have to use my powers wisely. He touched the ground full of ice and he felt all tingly inside but he felt stronger, He fought the beast and defeated him with ease. He went into the castle but he saw these blue creatures.

The creatures were called the “snow keepers.” He asked them how to get through the underworld but they said he had to speak to the queen. He walked up to her and he saw her sitting in a tall, enormous, icy, throne. He bowed to her to show his respect. He asked her how to get to the underworld and she said, “walk down to the third corridor and take two steps to the left and you should find a portal to the underworld”, The Queen said. “Thank you,” Reyota replied. He followed her instructions and made it out of the castle. He entered it and his mom was screaming. He removed the chains that were tied around her neck. He rescued her and took her back to earth. “Wow, thanks for rescuing me son.” she said as they were flying in the air. “I missed you so much mom” he said. “I missed you too,” she replied. Reyota flew back into the clouds after he kissed his mom goodbye. This was truly his new life.
Reyota was brave. He saved his mom and his plan went through its course. This makes him a hero because he goes on a journey to help someone in need that he truly cares about. Reyota’s real journey had just begun.

Answer:

He disagrees with Captain Jaggery’s lack of sympathy.

Explanation:

Mr. Hollybrass' look of appeal is calling for a change in attitude towards Captain Jaggery's lack of sympathy, especially towards the dead who deserved respect and compassion. Even in the face of Mr. Hollybrass's silent plea , we can see that Captain Jaggery’s lack of sympathy remains intact, even to the point where he spits on the corpse.

Please help me I need a body paragraph 1 for the article teens are going to extremes with texting I NEED A PARAGRAPH

Answers

Answer: (Copied this off a website.. Hope this helps, thought :D

Explanation: The national obsession with instantaneous communication is taking a toll on teens so severe that some experts are calling it a crisis.

It's not the phenomenon of cell-phoning or messaging while driving -- both are illegal in

New Jersey

-- but all-night texting that is leaving too many teens too tired for school.

One 14-year-old New Jerseyan featured in a recent Star-Ledger story receives up to 10,000 -- 10,000! -- text messages a month. To accomplish that astounding yet not unusual feat, she interrupts her showers and stays up all night long, thumbs pumping, to read and respond to an avalanche of messages. Doctors are beginning to recognize such obsession as addiction that is robbing children of sleep at the very time in their life when they need it the most.

A well-publicized study recently found that early high school start times deprive adolescents of sleep and force students to perform academically in the early morning, a time of day when they are at their worst. Many teens are making a tough situation worse by shortchanging themselves of the time they do have to sleep. The inevitable results are poor performance, a sort of sleepwalking through classes and the day in a fog that some physicians liken to drunkenness.

According to a recent Nielsen study, 13- to 17-year-olds send or receive an average of 1,742 text messages a month -- more than seven times the average number of calls they place on their cell phones. That represents huge chunks of time dedicated to the flimsiest of patter. Here, truly, the medium is the message, and teens are loath to part with a gadget which to them seems as natural as breathing.

It's a situation made all the more challenging by the fact that these kids are among the first to have this amazing, and tempting, technology right at their fingertips; it's not likely they will set limits for themselves. They depend on their parents for rules and guidelines in all other areas of life, so it's naive to believe they will cut down on texting without some intervention.

great many adults also are addicted to devices of the new technology. In fact, there's a "Distracted Driving Summit" taking place in Washington, D.C., in which federal officials are urging the public not to text and drive in those states that haven't outlawed it. And a rehab center for the technologically dependent just opened in

state. For $14,000, clients are helped to wean themselves from obsessive use of video games, etc..

Read the excerpt from Animal Farm and the passage on the history of the Soviet Union.

In glowing sentences he painted a picture of Animal Farm as it might be when sordid labour was lifted from the animals' backs. His imagination had now run far beyond chaff-cutters and turnip-slicers. Electricity, he said, could operate threshing machines, ploughs, harrows, rollers, and reapers and binders, besides supplying every stall with its own electric light, hot and cold water, and an electric heater. By the time he had finished speaking, there was no doubt as to which way the vote would go. But just at this moment Napoleon stood up and, casting a peculiar sidelong look at Snowball, uttered a high-pitched whimper of a kind no one had ever heard him utter before.

At this there was a terrible baying sound outside, and nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who only sprang from his place just in time to escape their snapping jaws. In a moment he was out of the door and they were after him. Too amazed and frightened to speak, all the animals crowded through the door to watch the chase. Snowball was racing across the long pasture that led to the road. He was running as only a pig can run, but the dogs were close on his heels. Suddenly he slipped and it seemed certain that they had him. Then he was up again, running faster than ever, then the dogs were gaining on him again. One of them all but closed his jaws on Snowball's tail, but Snowball whisked it free just in time. Then he put on an extra spurt and, with a few inches to spare, slipped through a hole in the hedge and was seen no more.

During the second half of the 1920s, Joseph Stalin set the stage for gaining absolute power by employing police repression against opposition elements within the Communist Party. The machinery of coercion had previously been used only against opponents of Bolshevism, not against party members themselves. The first victims were Politburo members Leon Trotskii, Grigorii Zinov'ev, and Lev Kamenev, who were defeated and expelled from the party in late 1927.

How does the conflict in the Animal Farm excerpt relate to the events in the historical passage?

Snowball's quick escape under the hedge is similar to how Stalin was expelled.
Snowball’s ideas about work relate to the Stalin’s efforts to gain total control.
Napoleon removes Snowball for his own purposes just as Stalin removed those in his own party.
Snowball's dream for the animals on the farm is the same as the dream of the Communist Party.

Answers

Answer:

Napoleon removes Snowball for his own purposes just as Stalin removed those in his own party.

Explanation:

"Animal farm" was written to be a great political allegory, pointing out sutuations of hypocrisy, seizure of power, inefficiency and abuse of authority between real political luders and their disastrous achievements in their countries.

This book directly refers to the history of societal union and shows how Stalin did not even consider his own allies in order to maintain his national power and dominance. This can be seen when Napoleon removes Snowball for his own purposes, just as Stalin removed those from his own party.

Why do you think it is difficult for people to acknowledge something bad is going to happen to them? What could this say about the Jewish people living in Germany at this time?

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

1. People find it difficult to recognize that something bad is going to happen to them because of fear. Fear encourages us to reject the idea of the evil that can happen to us as a way of de-stressing us and preventing us from becoming too anxious. Denial is a way of rejecting evil and keeping us hopeful and confident.

2. The Jewish people were very afraid of what Nazism could do to them and even if their situation got worse by the minute, they believed that it would end at any moment and that it would not reach the point it reached. That thought was a way to stay strong and endure everything that was happening, despite the fear.

The residents of cities A, B, C, D and E consume wi-fi routers, with consumption in each city is 150 routers (see the map below). The firm that produces routers must decide how to set-up production. It could set up five factories, dispersed across each city, with each factory producing 150 routers and supplying to its own local city market. In this case, the firm incurs no cost for shipping output. Alternatively, the firm could locate its factory at centrally located city C, and supply routers to the entire region. The single factory in city C must then produce 750 routers, 600 of which are shipped to the cities A, B, D and E for a shipping cost of $6 per router. A ECB D(a) Suppose the average cost of producing a router is AC (Q) = 1500/Q, where Q is the number of routers produced in a factory. Calculate AC with Q = 150 and Q = 750, respectively. Note and explain how this production process exhibit economies of scale. (b) Based on the AC function from part (a), find the optimal arrangement of production for the firm (one central factory or five dispersed factories). The optimal arrangement minimizes total cost for the firm, where total cost is the sum of production cost and shipping cost. Clearly write down all your calculations. (c) Now suppose the average cost of producing a router is AC = 14000/(Q+1250). Now, repeat the calculation of AC with Q = 150 and Q = 750. (d) Based on the AC function from part (c), now repeat your calculations to find the cost-minimizing arrangement of production in the case. (e) Explain intuitively the difference is results between responses to part (b) and (d). (f) Suppose now production costs are those given in part (a) but let shipping cost per router be given by t (in the preceding discussion, we had t = 6, now we assume we dont know the cost of shipping). What value of t would make the two arrangements for production (centralized versus separate factories) equivalent in terms of cost? i.e. what value of t would make the firm indifferent between a centralized versus a dispersed set-up?
