In 1497 he sailed west from Bristol hoping to find a shorter route to Asia, a land believed to be rich in gold, spices and other luxuries. After a month, he discovered a 'new found land', today known as Newfoundland in Canada.
This was very valuable because John Cabot discovered a foodsource. This food is a type of fish known as cod. Which apparently was so plentiful in the waters surrounding Newfoundland. This was valuable because it soon became a cheap and available source of nutrition for everyone in England and food is hard to come by usually.

Select TWO environmental concerns about China's Three Gorges Dam.

Environmentalists claim the dam has affected local weather patterns.

All the fish in the Yangtze River have died.

Holding back the water has created a desert downstream.

Loess, trash, and industrial pollution are accumulating behind the dam.

Answers

Answer:

SHANGHAI—For over three decades the Chinese government dismissed warnings from scientists and environmentalists that its Three Gorges Dam—the world's largest—had the potential of becoming one of China's biggest environmental nightmares. But last fall, denial suddenly gave way to reluctant acceptance that the naysayers were right. Chinese officials staged a sudden about-face, acknowledging for the first time that the massive hydroelectric dam, sandwiched between breathtaking cliffs on the Yangtze River in central China, may be triggering landslides, altering entire ecosystems and causing other serious environmental problems—and, by extension, endangering the millions who live in its shadow.

What did Renaissance Social Classes look like and how did they affect the people at the time?

Thx if you help!!! :D

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

The people of Renaissance Florence, like most city–states of the era, were composed of four social classes: the nobles, the merchants, the tradesmen and the unskilled workers.

The nobles lived on large estates outside the city walls. They owned most of the city’s land, so the nobles controlled. The nobles served as military officers, royal advisers. A noble must have training to be an able warrior and social talents such as wit, the ability to dance, and “a certain grace that makes all his activities seem effortless and unconscious.”

The nobles were disdainful of the merchant class, who gained wealth in industries like wool processing, shipbuilding and banking. The merchants sought to protect their wealth by controlling the government and marrying into noble families. They became patrons of great artists in order to gain public favor.

The tradesmen of Florence were the crafts workers and shopkeepers. Most tradesmen belonged to guilds, organizations that established standards of quality, set rules for membership, and limited outside competition.

The unskilled workers were the lowest class of city workers. These laborers did not have job protection and were very dependent on their employers. Workers who violated rules could have their wages withheld or could be discharged from their jobs.As difficult as their lives were, however, the unskilled urban workers were better off than the peasants who lived in rural areas. The poorest of the peasants were the sharecroppers who worked on land owned by nobles. Life on peasant farms was very difficult, and starvation was common.

The social classes of became less distinct as the Renaissance progressed. Humanist ideas led to increased rights for individuals, but the class system remained in place in Florence and throughout most of Europe long after the end of the Renaissance.

So:Your class was determined by your job, money, and if you had government power. Also your class determined the food and fashion available.

The poor people worked on farms.  They could not leave the land that they farmed.  They dressed and ate simply.  They ate a lot of bread and other simple foods.  Their houses were really small with a maximum of four rooms.

Citizens were everyone who was not a farmer. They had lots of free time and enjoyed telling stories. They could eat more expensive things, and liked to travel.  They ate a lot of bread, and if you were a French citizen you ate a lot of soup.  Hoods, roughs, and wigs were popular in the fifteenth century with middle class and upper class.  They had medium or large houses.  In their free time, they could watch jousting or sword play. Jousting was a form of military training. Knights got rich from sword events. Sword play was a gentler form of jousting.

The government was composed of rich citizens. Their houses were small palaces or villas.  They would go to banquets and eat things like soup, wine and meat. Soups were really expensive.  There were 70 French types of soups.

I go and come with a strange liberty in Nature, a part of herself. As I walk along the stony shore of the pond in my shirt-sleeves, though it is cool as well as cloudy and windy, and I see nothing special to attract me, all the elements are unusually congenial to me. The bullfrogs trump to usher in the night, and the note of the whip-poor-will is borne on the rippling wind from over the water. Sympathy with the fluttering alder and poplar leaves almost takes away my breath; yet, like the lake, my serenity is rippled but not ruffled. These small waves raised by the evening wind are as remote from storm as the smooth reflecting surface. Though it is now dark, the wind still blows and roars in the wood, the waves still dash, and some creatures lull the rest with their notes. The repose is never complete. The wildest animals do not repose, but seek their prey now; the fox, and skunk, and rabbit, now roam the fields and woods without fear. They are Nature's watchmenlinks which connect the days of animated life. There is commonly sufficient space about us. Our horizon is never quite at our elbows. The thick wood is not just at our door, nor the pond, but somewhat is always clearing, familiar and worn by us, appropriated and fenced in some way, and reclaimed from Nature. For what reason have I this vast range and circuit, some square miles of unfrequented forest, for my privacy, abandoned to me by men? My nearest neighbor is a mile distant, and no house is visible from any place but the hill-tops within half a mile of my own. I have my horizon bounded by woods all to myself; a distant view of the railroad where it touches the pond on the one hand, and of the fence which skirts the woodland road on the other. But for the most part it is as solitary where I live as on the prairies. It is as much Asia or Africa as New England. I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself.1What effect does the setting have on the author? A. He feels very irritated by the roaring wind. B. He feels a deep connection to the natural surroundings. C. He feels a great sense of courage in the forest. D. He feels somewhat unnerved by the darkness. (Will give 50 points!)
