Answer:

Ok so the theme is --In the short story The strangers that came to town my Ambrose flack bases on the idea not to judge others until you fully know them and their story. Right now we're going to be focusing on the Duvitches they moved into a wealthy neighborhood and everyone thought they were these dirty poor people. The tone of this story is showing acceptance and awe.

When the boys from the story killed the fish and then caught them back it showed how hard people work for what they have. Then it showed the Duvitches being so appreciative that they invited them to dinner and after a little they were finally accepted into the community. This is showing how much you have to really know someone to have the right to judge them.

Now that you have some background on the role of women in Ancient Greece, let’s take a few moments to compare and contrast that with the role of women in Antigone. In your journal, reflect on the role women play in Antigone, comparing and contrasting that with the role of women in Ancient Greece. Based on your reading of the play, do you think Sophocles agreed or disagreed with the culture's view of women during his time? Explain your answer using examples from the text.

ok so to compare and contrast wowmen from greece and anbitgone well the easy answer is that greek woman had more wrhits then antigone women

Explanation:

Answer:

Antigone in was a main character in Antigone and was an example of loyalty to her brother and she was very strong and brave. Antigone was clearly a strong character, and confident and strong-willed. Even from the beginning of the story, Antigone is outspoken and passionate. She knew her brother was just protesting for being banished, so she knew the right thing to do was to give him a proper burial to honor his life, their culture, and the gods. She looked past Polyneices's flaws and put his soul to rest. She saw the problems arising from power running rampant in her city and ignores the politics surrounding the brotherly battle.

In ancient greece they distinguished its people based on gender, where women stand as weak compared to men. While the society treats men as brave and aggressive, women on the other hand stand in the ‘second class’ category of people. For example, Ismene, Antigone’s sister, agrees with the notion that women are a low-grade people. She said this during her argument with Antigone, when they were discussing the burial of their brother Polynices. She says, “We must remember we are women born, unapt to cope with men; and, being ruled

by mightier than ourselves, we have to hear these things and worse” Her words picture women as less-than-standard people. They are unable to perform some duties due to their belief that they are ordered by men. It also seems like that when cases of disobedience stand, men appear the most affected. Women on the other hand are too obedient to defy authority.

I think that Sophocles both agreed and disagreed with his cultures view, because he made a woman a hero in his play, but also made sure he followed all the rules of women in his culture.

Something that has an unappealing appearance but has special meaning to someone for other reasons could be ashes. Many people cremate their loved ones and keep their ashes. They don't look appealing to the eye but they have a huge symbolic representation.

It could honestly be anything. For example an old guy. You'd probably think something like "Hes a creep" or "Hes a weirdo" But you dont actually know him, he could be like a special FBI agent or something. Or a toy. If the toy is super used, lets say a stuffed animal. Its super beat up, and super grey. That toy might be special to somebody. It couldve been given to them by a loved one, or they couldve won it somewhere. It just depends.

I have to do a literary essay on the short story The strangers that came to town anyone have any ideas will give brainiest:)!

Answers

Answer:

Here is a brief description on the story.

‘The Strangers that Came to Town’ is a short story and considered one of the best works of Ambrose Flack. Central in the story corresponds to the struggle felt by an immigrant family in Croatia as they try to adjust to the American way of life. Evident in the piece is the fact of discrimination and prejudice by the locals against the Duvitch family. Despite this treatment, the family continued to demonstrate resilience, optimism and generosity to the people who continue to ostracize them. In the end however, these traits would remain to be significant as acceptance is gained by the Duvitch family.

This further extends to their social status as the children are ridiculed for what they wear and also become a norm among other people within the community. Though this may seem to be the case, the Duvitch family continued to find ways to live beyond these cruelties and still show goodness to these people.

Flack also offers readers contrasting viewpoints surrounding the value system applied by the small-town American community and the Duvitch family. On one hand, readers are able to recognize the prejudice and bigotry exhibited by majority of the community against the Croatian immigrants. They are quick to judge because of how they look and create specific labels based on what they can only observe (Lopez 1). This remains to be a challenging experience for the Duvitch family because of the pressure to adjust to their new home as well as finding ways to experience the positive things in these experiences. Arguably, Flack is able to show that it is due to the Duvitch family’s optimism and willingness to accept their burden that they are able to gain the respect of the townsfolk.

Lastly, the story brings forward that change can happen with the ability of an individual to challenge the existing system. Clearly, the actions towards the Duvitch family remain to be unequal and detrimental to their ability to thrive within the community. That is why the initiative of Tom to put an end to oppressive behavior indicates the direction towards change. He specifically recognized that the actions committed against the Duvitch remain to be senseless and should be given the same amount of respect as others. Seeing this, the challenge then by Tom in this discriminative system further opened up ways for the transformation to happen. Rather than perceiving the Duvitch family as outsiders, they now have become a part of the community.

Ambrose Flack’s ‘The Strangers that Came to Town’ exhibit the difficult realities experienced by immigrants in trying to adjust and blend in with the local community. Clearly, issues related to labels, prejudice and oppression were experienced by the Duvitch family in the story. However, it is the family’s continued resilience to overcome these challenges and still demonstrate sympathy and goodness paved the way for the development of respect by the locals. The actions and initiatives made by Tom proved to be an important catalyst that shaped the start of changes. It is through his ability to question the current condition and put forward new ways to advocate positive changes that the Duvitch family found relevance within the community and the numerous efforts to give back be recognized by many.

Answer:

There have been a lot of complaints recently about our school's "no snacking in class" policy. Some students seem to believe they should be free to munch on whatever they like, whenever they choose. I admit there are some valid arguments for allowing food and drinks in the classroom. Overall, though, I think the principal's decision to uphold the snacking ban is a wise one.

Food in the classroom could actually create a lot of noise. It is easy to say that one person eating a crunchy food like potato chips does not make that much noise, but what happens when there are twenty people crunching, crinkling bags, ripping open packages, and gulping down juice? I think it could easily make it more difficult to hear what the teacher is saying. All of these sounds would be a nightmare for me, because I find it difficult to focus on my work when there is a lot of background noise.

Students may say they will clean up after themselves, but I think we all know that letting food and drinks into the classroom would create a huge mess. No matter how careful students are, there are bound to be spills and crumbs. Just imagine how it would feel to arrive at your desk only to find the seat is sticky and the desktop is littered with cracker fragments.

Next, there is the issue of what students will be snacking on. Some students would make healthy choices. They might pack apple slices or carrot sticks with dip. They would choose to drink water or milk; however, there are many others who would decide to drink soda or eat chips and candy bars. Unhealthy snacks do not have much nutritional value at all. They are full of empty calories, and eating too many of them can lead to health problems. The school would probably want to discourage students from eating garbage. This gives teachers yet another responsibility. Instead of making them the "snack police," it is easier to just keep food out of the classroom.

Allowing snacking in the classroom is not just noisy and messy. For some students, it could also be dangerous. Some students at our school are allergic to certain foods. If they are exposed to them, there could be serious consequences. They might feel sick to their stomach or get itchy. If they are extremely allergic to the food, they might even have trouble breathing and need to go to the hospital. The scary thing is, it may not take very much of a food to trigger an allergic reaction. Keeping all foods and drinks out of the classroom will help keep students with food allergies safe. There is no doubt that all snacks are not created equal. A vitamin–packed banana is clearly more nutritious than a sugar–filled bag of banana–flavored candy. Some may view the fact that students might make unhealthy choices as a reason to keep snacks out of class. Letting snacks in class provides teachers with a superb chance to educate students about making good food choices. They can talk to the class as a whole or to single students about the difference between good snacks and bad snacks. They might even choose to ban junk food outright. These lessons could stay with and help students throughout their lives. Some people worry about the potential noise and mess that will result if food and drinks are allowed into the classroom. They also worry about food allergies. The benefits of allowing food into the classroom outweigh these downsides, though. In addition, these possible problems could be fully avoided by creating some rules students need to follow and introducing some new classroom routines. For instance, students might be told they cannot bring "noisy foods" into the classroom. Teachers could post a list of foods that are banned because some students are allergic to them. Teachers could also give students just a couple of minutes close to the end of class to throw away empty wrappers and wipe up spills.
